Brown and Caldwell is seeking a Market Leader for our Walnut Creek office to lead and grow an already established team that serves the water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure market. This role is built for a leader who can inspire and develop people, understand client and market dynamics, and translate that insight into sustained business growth, strong project delivery, and trusted long-term client relationships. The Market Leader will guide office and market strategy, align staffing and resources with business priorities, advance high-impact pursuits, and collaborate across client service, technical, delivery, and business leadership teams to win and deliver meaningful work. Success in this role requires the ability to lead a large team of engineering consultants, build an engaged and accountable culture, make sound strategic and financial decisions, and position BC as the preferred partner for clients while supporting the growth and development of our people.ResponsibilitiesLead the development and execution of the market sector strategic business plan by identifying market drivers, industry trends, client needs, and growth opportunities.Drive profitable growth by leveraging the team to identify opportunities, develop pursuit strategies, prepare compelling proposals, and expand business with both new and existing clients.Build and sustain strong client relationships that foster long-term partnerships, client satisfaction, and repeat business opportunities.Participate in market sales efforts and strategic Go/No-Go decisions, ensuring pursuits are aligned with market strategy, financial objectives, and business priorities.Collaborate across the enterprise to bring the right resources, expertise, and capabilities to client projects and strategic pursuits.Provide operational leadership to achieve targets for net revenue, profit, backlog, and other key business performance metrics while improving business processes and operational effectiveness.Participate in strategic business planning and annual budgeting processes to support sustainable growth and sound financial management.Develop and lead a high-performing leadership team focused on growth, operations, project delivery, workforce planning, and strategic execution while partnering effectively with Human Resources, IT, Finance & Administration, and other enterprise functions.Foster a culture of growth, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement through effective people leadership, hiring, talent development, innovation, and sound decision-making.Champion organizational and industry change by leading with curiosity, adaptability, optimism, and good judgment while driving adoption of new initiatives and best practices.Preferred Experience15+ years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, consulting, environmental services, infrastructure, construction, or related professional services leadership roles.Demonstrated experience leading a business unit, office, practice, market sector, or comparable organization with accountability for financial performance, staffing, and operational results.Proven success managing profit-and-loss responsibilities, including budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, utilization management, and overall business performance.Experience leading and developing large, multidisciplinary teams, including hiring, workforce planning, succession planning, coaching, employee engagement, and talent development.Demonstrated ability to develop and grow client relationships, lead business development efforts, and successfully win strategic pursuits, programs, and key accounts.Significant experience managing and delivering large, complex engineering, program management, design, construction, or infrastructure projects and portfolios.Deep experience serving municipal water, wastewater, stormwater, recycled water, environmental, or related infrastructure clients, with an understanding of industry trends, regulatory drivers, and capital improvement programs.Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating growth, operations, project delivery, and technical resources to achieve business objectives.Experience developing and implementing business strategies, annual operating plans, growth initiatives, and organizational priorities.Track record of leading organizational change, driving continuous improvement, and implementing business strategies across large and complex organizations.Professional registration such as Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), Program Management Professional (PMP), or other relevant industry certifications professionals at all career stages.Demonstrated commitment to ethical leadership, sound judgment, continuous improvement, and a culture of accountability.EducationBachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Business, or a related field required.
