AK050 - Full-Time Nanny - Washington, DC
$45 - $55 per hourBritish American Household Staffing
Overview A warm, highly accomplished, intellectually engaged Washington, D.C. family is seeking an exceptional full-time Career Nanny / Family Assistant to support their two active school-aged boys. The family has enjoyed wonderful long-term relationships with previous caregivers, including one beloved nanny who has remained with them for over 11 years in an evolving household support role. They deeply value longevity, professionalism, direct communication, and a true partnership dynamic with household staff. This is a long-term opportunity for a confident, experienced, emotionally grounded career nanny who genuinely wants to grow with a family and become a trusted, steady presence in the children's lives. The ideal candidate will be established in their career and personal life, emotionally mature, highly dependable, and looking for a long-term professional home rather than a temporary position. Both parents have demanding, high-profile, public-facing careers, and the household operates around an academic semester schedule. While the family is highly organized and communicative, the ideal candidate will be comfortable with occasional schedule fluctuations and the flexibility that comes with supporting a busy professional family. Both parents are highly involved in their children's lives and spend as much time with them as possible. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working alongside hands-on parents and naturally pivoting to other productive tasks when a parent steps in for one-on-one time with the children. Children: The family has two kind, bright, and active boys, approximately ages 7 and 12, who are heavily involved in sports, school activities, and extracurricular programs. One child has well-managed ADHD, making consistency, structure, calm communication, and emotional steadiness especially important. The family is seeking someone who can provide dependable routines while bringing warmth, patience, and positivity to the role. The ideal candidate will genuinely enjoy working with energetic school-aged children and have the physical stamina to keep up with an active lifestyle that includes sports, outdoor activities, and busy schedules. Travel Travel is required. The family travels frequently during school breaks and throughout the summer, often spending portions of June and much of July and August away from Washington, D.C. Travel may include both domestic and international destinations. During the academic year, the position is primarily Washington, D.C.-based, with occasional travel to cities such as New York, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles. The ideal candidate will be comfortable traveling domestically and internationally, adjusting to changing schedules and time zones, and embracing the flexibility that naturally comes with family travel. Accommodations, travel expenses, and meals will be provided while traveling. Relocation candidates are welcome; however, applicants should be genuinely committed to relocating to Washington, D.C. and comfortable establishing themselves independently in a new city. Start Date: Ideally mid-to-late August 2026 Typical Schedule: Monday through Thursday, approximately 1:30pm–9:30pm, and Sunday, approximately 8:00am–8:00pm. Approximately 45 guaranteed hours per week Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing attentive, engaged, and developmentally appropriate care for two school-aged boys Managing after-school through bedtime routines School pickup and transportation to and from school, activities, sports, appointments, and events Supervising homework and supporting academic success Supporting a child with ADHD through consistency, structure, and calm communication Managing school, activity, and sports schedules while maintaining clear communication with parents regarding daily logistics and calendar updates Helping children stay organized with school materials, sports equipment, uniforms, bags, and personal belongings Preparing simple meals and snacks for the children Following reheating instructions for meals prepared by the family's private chef Heating and serving pre-prepared meals for the parents as needed Maintaining organization throughout children's bedrooms, play spaces, and activity areas Assisting with toy rotations, seasonal organization projects, and household resets Walking the family dog with the children or independently as needed Traveling with the family during school breaks and summer months Maintaining professional, direct, and drama-free communication with the parents The household is supported by a private chef, weekly housekeepers, a regular handyman, a morning dog walker, and a long-term household support professional. The nanny will work collaboratively within this team environment and should be willing to pitch in where needed while maintaining open communication regarding household needs and observations. Driving A clean driving record and valid driver's license are required. The family will provide a vehicle for transporting the children during work hours. Candidates do not need to use their personal vehicle for work-related transportation; however, they should be comfortable and confident driving children throughout Washington, D.C. and navigating city traffic. Swimming Strong swimming skills are required. The family has a pool, and both boys enjoy swimming regularly. The nanny must be comfortable supervising children around water and actively participating in pool activities when appropriate. Pet Care The family has a friendly dog. The ideal candidate will be comfortable around pets and willing to assist with basic dog care responsibilities during work hours, including walks and general oversight. Qualifications Background in education, child development, or tutoring Experience supporting children with ADHD Extensive travel experience with private families Experience in busy academic, professional, or high-profile households Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish Strong sports and activity coordination experience The ideal candidate is a mature, professional career nanny who brings warmth, structure, flexibility, and excellent judgment to their work. They should be comfortable supporting active school-aged children, managing busy schedules, and working collaboratively within a highly engaged and active family environment. They are grounded, emotionally stable, settled in their own life, and approach nannying as a long-term profession rather than a temporary role. They are warm and kind with children, highly organized, dependable, and capable of keeping schedules, routines, and logistics running smoothly. The family is inclusive, accepting, open-minded, and welcoming of people from all backgrounds. The household environment is best suited to a candidate who shares those values and is comfortable in a thoughtful, intellectually engaged home where kindness, respect, education, and civic engagement are important. Requirements At least 5 years of professional nanny experience Strong experience working with school-aged children A genuine interest in a long-term career nanny role Experience supporting active children and managing busy activity schedules Strong executive functioning and organizational skills Confidence managing multiple schedules, logistics, and moving parts The physical energy to keep up with an active household A valid driver's license and clean driving record A valid passport Strong swimming ability Comfort with dogs Comfort traveling domestically and internationally Strong calendar management skills Excellent communication skills Emotional maturity and sound judgment A calm, even-keeled demeanor A flexible, team-oriented attitude The ability to anticipate needs and pivot naturally throughout the day Ability to receive and implement direct feedback professionally Comfort working alongside highly involved parents A desire for longevity and stability in their next position Salary and Benefits Compensation is $45–$55/hour, depending on experience and overall fit. The family offers a strong benefits package, including: Guaranteed 45 hours per week Two weeks of paid vacation Paid sick days Paid federal holidays Health insurance coverage Mileage reimbursement Paid travel accommodations and expenses Annual raises Performance-based bonus opportunities Professional development and continuing education support #J-18808-Ljbffr British American Household Staffing
