The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire two Site Technician 2's at the Lincoln Trail State Park. This position will build forms and pour/finish concrete for sidewalks, foundations & pads; perform routine repairs and maintenance to drinking fountains, water hydrants, faucets, stools, urinals, showers, drains, sinks and other minor plumbing repairs; perform minor electrical/heating repairs, replacements, and improvements; complete building and facility repairs and replacements, including roofing; perform carpentry work necessary for site and facility repairs, maintenance, and improvements; repair, maintain, paint, install, and route site informational signs; construct, repair and maintain picnic tables and benches; assist in the operation and maintenance of water wells and water treatment equipment.
Today, visitors to the 1,023-acre park can enjoy the sights of an American Beech woods; wildflowers, including the unusual squaw-root and beech drops; and recreational activities such as boating, camping, fishing, hiking and winter sports. There is truly something for everyone.
Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation. Requires two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing. Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions. One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations. One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation. One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.
Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license. Ability to obtain pesticide applicator's license within 6 months of employment. Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis. Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings and grounds. Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds. Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain. Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
