Job Title: Quality Inspector – 1st Shift
Job Description

The Quality Inspector on 1st shift is responsible for performing first-piece inspections and a variety of other quality checks in support of machining and assembly operations. This role ensures that products meet customer and company requirements through dimensional inspections, internal process audits, and support of the overall quality system. The position plays a key role in maintaining high standards in an aerospace manufacturing environment and assisting production teams in troubleshooting quality issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first-piece inspections in accordance with customer and company requirements to verify that initial production meets all specifications.
  • Conduct a range of inspections, including raw material receiving, general receiving, in-process, and first article inspections (FAI).
  • Carry out inspections to support GR&R (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility) and process capability studies.
  • Perform and assist in internal auditing activities to ensure adherence to established quality systems and procedures.
  • Help maintain the calibration system for inspection tools and equipment to ensure measurement accuracy.
  • Facilitate and support the quality system, contributing to continuous improvement and compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Assist manufacturing teams in troubleshooting quality-related problems as they occur on the shop floor.
  • Use a wide variety of inspection equipment, ranging from simple hand tools such as micrometers and calipers to more advanced equipment such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Interpret blueprints and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to verify product conformity.
  • Maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with machining, assembly, and other departments.
  • Document inspection results accurately and support data entry and reporting using MS Office applications.
  • Follow all safety and quality procedures while working in a shop environment with machinery and lifting requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Two-year degree in quality or manufacturing, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Thorough understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation.
  • Ability to perform dimensional inspections using a wide variety of inspection equipment, from simple hand tools such as micrometers and calipers to Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as turning and milling.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of inspection equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to perform first-piece inspections in accordance with specified requirements.
  • Capability to assist with internal auditing processes and support the quality system.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Lean, Six Sigma, and/or ASQ certification is a plus.
  • Experience with AS9100 quality systems in an aerospace environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • J-STD-001 soldering certification.
  • IPC-610 solder inspection certification.
  • Experience facilitating and supporting formal quality systems.
  • Ability to perform data entry and basic analysis in Excel related to inspection results.

Work Environment

This is a 1st shift position, Monday through Friday, typically working from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with extended hours such as 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when needed. The role is based in a newly renovated building near PCI and the Rockford Airport, within an aerospace manufacturing setting. The facility is very clean, organized, well lit, and temperature controlled, providing a comfortable and professional shop environment with machinery. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend or stand as necessary throughout the shift. Appropriate shop attire is expected to ensure safety and readiness to work around production equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $58240.00/yr.
