San Francisco Boys Home is an 8 bed Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) that provides a safe, structured, and intensive trauma-informed program for boys ages 13–17 with significant emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. SFBH is the only STRTP in San Francisco County, serving adjudicated boys through an integrated model that includes clinical services, structured supervision, and skill-building interventions designed to achieve measurable outcomes. The residential and clinical staff work as a client-centered and family-focused interdisciplinary team. SFBH is one of the collaborative partners of a multidisciplinary team, that includes professionals across legal, clinical, educational, and recreational domains designed to address the multiple and diverse needs of each minor. Staff work to empower youth to build independence, develop essential life skills, engage with their community, and reconnect with their strengths to support healing, growth, and long-term self-sufficiency. The psychotherapist is a member of the Mental Health Services Department and reports to the clinical supervisor. The therapist will work with the clinical supervisor to develop the client's course of treatment while in our care. The therapist is a part of a clinical team that includes a clinical supervisor and rehabilitation specialist. This position is typically weekdays, with the possibility of weekends to accommodate program needs. It is expected that this role is in the agency during business hours, but modifications are often made to accommodate clients and families who need evening appointments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES PSYCHOTHERAPY AND SUPERVISION: Accepts all case assignments, reviews referral material, and completes intake/placement documentation related to mental health Completion of all assessments (mental health, CANS, PSC-35, etc.) and treatment plan Provide individual (1x/wk), family (1x/wk), and group psychotherapy Engage in collateral contacts, Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTs), and crisis intervention & safety support Weekly mandatory individual supervision; group supervision Timely documentation of all services & progress notes on internal and 3 rd party EHRs (EPIC). Expectation to be 50% billable CASE REVIEW AND MANAGEMENT Regular CM contacts with attorney, school liaison & counselor, rehab. specialist, residential staff, psychiatrist, probation officer, case manager, etc. Monthly CORE (monthly rounds) meetings with program supervisors to discuss case progress Quarterly case reviews with clinical supervisor and psychiatrist in preparation for CANS updates prior to IPCANS CFTs Participate in weekly staff meetings to discuss cases and any case updates Meet with DSS, SFDPH, or probation officers as needed Consult with placing agency about medication requests, the need for medication and documentation surrounding them Attend IEP meetings whenever necessary DISCHARGE PLANNING: Devise a working plan with DSS or probation officer for the transition from agency to next setting Prepare Transition Determination Letter and other relevant documentation for the purposes of continuity of care for client’s next setting and treatment team Plan follow-up interviews and/or aftercare DEPARTMENTAL AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES: Participate in on-call system for after-hours coverage of psychiatric emergencies, coordination with Mobile Crisis Unit. Meet with program supervisors to review, revise or renew existing policy and procedure regarding treatment Provide in-service programs as requested Complete training requirements throughout the year (extensive opportunities) Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Candidates must be licensed or an Associate AMFT/LMFT, ACSW/LCSW, or APCC/LPCC Experience with children and/or families in a residential treatment center or psychiatric hospital preferred Experience with significant family system and individual impairments which manifest in significant emotional and/or behavioral regulation impacting overall well-being and daily functioning Experience in assessment and treatment planning preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of social work practices, marriage and family therapy, & psychology. Knowledge of extremely dysfunctional family systems and seriously emotionally disturbed children and the applicable modalities for their treatment in a residential treatment setting. Knowledge of clinical assessment and evaluation modalities. Knowledge of group therapy modalities. Ability to write & communicate clearly. Ability to provide accurate, timely documentation. Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations. Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling. Occasional repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Driving is required for this position. If driving a car is required for the position, incumbent must have a valid California driver's license and be able to provide proof of DMV record and personal insurance (if required.) WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment includes homes, schools, offices, and community resources such as recreation facilities, churches or various outing and store locations. May include contact with clients with mental health issues who demonstrate behaviors such as cursing, shouting, running away, self-harm and violence. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions while monitoring clients in the outside courtyard and assisting clients to and from transportation vehicles. May be exposed to odors such as fragrances, cleaning products, and clients who experience difficulties with personal hygiene.
