Franklin Biolabs, Inc. is in search of a Cage Wash Technician who supports the daily operation of Franklin Biolabs biomedical research vivarium by performing sanitation, sterilization, and equipment processing activities essential to the health and welfare of research animals, and to the integrity of preclinical studies. This role ensures animal housing equipment, support areas, and associated materials are disassembled, sanitized, sterilized, reassembled, and distributed in compliance with institutional standards, regulatory requirements, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), as well as applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 1 year position-specific work experience, or 2 years of transferable work experience is preferred.
• Overall equivalent combinations of formal education and work experience may be considered.

Knowledge | Skills | Abilities:

• Understanding the sanitation process technology and equipment functionality.
• Familiarity with biohazard waste, biohazard safety, and biohazard waste disposal policy and practice.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a highly regulated environment.
• Ability to prioritize within a fast-paced processing/production environment without compromising quality or quantity.
• Ability to communicate effectively and promptly.
• Ability to follow detailed SOPs.

On-Site:

• This position requires full-time on-site presence at our Discovery Labs location.

Immunizations and Screenings:

• This position will require work within non-colony areas of the Franklin Biolabs biomedical research vivarium, and work with equipment that has had direct exposure to animal allergens, research test articles, and other potentially infectious biological hazards.
• Note: Some infectious biological hazards can be transmitted from animal to human, AND from human to animal. Below are preventive/protective medical processes required for staff members to gain clearance to work.
• Tuberculosis (TB) Testing: Documentation of a negative TB blood test or normal chest X-ray is required before starting work and subsequently on an annual or semi-annual basis.
• Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) Proof of immunity, typically through immunization records or a titer test, is required for personnel and visitors to prevent spreading measles to primates.
• Tetanus: Documentation of a tetanus vaccination, usually required within the last 10 years.
• Health Questionnaire/Allergy Survey: Annual review to identify potential allergy development, such as to animal dander.
• Respirator Questionnaire & Physical Exam: A formal medical evaluation is required to ensure the worker is physically capable of wearing a respirator (e.g., N95 or PAPR).
• Fit Testing: Annual fit testing for N95 respirators.
• Audiometric Testing: Cage Wash noise exposure may periodically equal or exceed an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) of 85 dB. This position must enroll in a hearing conservation program, which includes annual audiometric (hearing) testing.

Essential Status:

• This position may be required to go on-site during state, local, or company closures to maintain regulatory standards for equipment sanitation/sterilization, in support of animal welfare and study integrity expectations. Examples of company closures include snow days, special shutdowns, etc.

• Ability to work in environments with varying light conditions.
