Department Overview

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Position Summary

NOTE: The Construction Manager is responsible to ensure work readiness and communicating the execution challenges to rest of GC Planning and Execution Team.

1. Identifying the project priority consistent with project governance standard.

2. Coordinating with Project Managers/Outage Managers PM/OMs for Request for Proposal (RFPs).

3. Gathering planning data from project scoping to construction turnover.

4. Providing input on GC Project/Outage P6 schedules with dedicated resource allocations and required competencies.

5. Validating construction resources and competencies meet the proposed project timeline. 

a. Communicating when construction resources will need to come from other execution teams across the system.

6. Working with Engineer to develop class ROM,30,50,100% estimates and schedules consistent with project planning milestones. 

a. Ensuring TC&S receives inputs for developing start up, testing, and commissioning plans and provides plans per planning milestones.

7. Verifying GC readiness deliverables.

8. Supporting area 4-week look ahead.

9. Completing pre-job checklist.

10. Identifying job specific safety hazards and mitigations, especially for infrequent high hazard work, including travel to construction site.

11. Conducting quality review of project close out.

12. Providing Visual Management (VM) and knowledge management inputs.

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory between Redding or Burney headquarters, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

Position will require approximately 50% of travel time in work schedule.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (Redding or Burney).

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

California Minimum:$100,000

California Maximum: $161,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

• Applies advanced knowledge of professional and technical concepts to projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and pipeline construction management.

• Attends job scope walk downs w/PG&E Engineers and Project Managers, leads job scope discussions with Gas Operation Supervisors, conducts preliminary job site visits, solicits input on the constructability and contractibility of proposed projects.

• Interprets, designs, and writes work specific scope documentation and contributes to the decision-making process with Project Managers and M&C Supervisors related to contract work.

• Reviews RFP’s to confirm financial data submitted from the contractor matches the job scope.

• Attends and leads formal job walk downs and 30/60/90 design reviews by Engineering with Project Managers and/or Gas Operation Supervisors to review the IFC (Issued For Construction) drawings and discuss scope, schedule and target dates.

• Compiles internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes.

• Addresses all communication with contractors. Conducts meetings at the job site allowing contractors to review the design and ask questions.

• Utilizes workload management database and update assigned projects. Assist career level employees with system usage and begin reviewing workload analysis reports.

• Ensures contractors follow their approved site-specific safety plans. Enforces project environmental/land permit conditions and all safety regulations. Performs as Incident Commander and Lead PG&E Representative in the field.

• Assists in the pre-construction project cycle, accompanies team on project walks and offer constructability reports when tasked. Coordinates both construction project kick off meetings, PG&E procured material deliveries, and meets with governing agencies/ municipalities to manage and enlist compliance with permitting regulations.

• Ensures accurate documentation of contractor billing, manage change orders and the close out of project field records.

• Leads weekly construction and progress meetings and publish meeting notes with field records on a project basis. Maintains a positive relationship with construction superintendents and project managers updating them as part of the project construction team.

• On a limited basis, and as designated, provides mentoring to Associate and Career level employees.

Qualifications-

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

• 5 years of experience in the field of Industrial engineering or Construction

Desired Qualifications:

• 7 years working experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Construction.

• Knowledge of carbon steel and alloy

• Working Knowledge of Primavera P3/P5/P6 scheduling software, and Primavera UNIFIER or similar software

• Demonstrated abilities in cost accounting, contract administration, and project scheduling

• Demonstrated abilities in project inspection and quality control

• Demonstrated knowledge in Gas Transmission/Distribution/Conveyance Pipeline Construction; with knowledge of compressor station or similar complex facility construction.

• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and (Technical) Competencies

• • Specialized knowledge of either civil, mechanical or Gas Transmission pipeline construction projects.
  • Familiarity with the processes and orientation of construction contracting firms.
  • Strong project and people management skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate civil/mechanical Gas Transmission construction procedures, process instrumentation, work methods, standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate skill in achieving cooperation from others in order to achieve a goal.
