Cloud Infrastructure engineer

Job Title: Cloud Infrastructure engineer Location: Birmingham, AL or Remote (1 week travel initially during onboarding) Duration: 6 Months approx. and can be extended PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for designing, implementing, and operating enterprise infrastructure across on-premises data centers and public cloud platforms. This role partners closely with development, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available infrastructure platforms that support business-critical workloads. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, deploy, and support hybrid infrastructure environments spanning on-premises systems (compute, storage, virtualization) and cloud services (IaaS/PaaS)
- Collaborate with Security, Network, Service Desk, and Application teams to deliver secure and compliant infrastructure solutions
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance across on-premises and cloud platforms; analyze trends and recommend improvements
- Ensure infrastructure platforms are highly available, resilient, and recoverable
- Support enterprise backup, retention, and recovery solutions across hybrid environments.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements aligned with enterprise strategy.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience (8+ years) will be considered
- Minimum of four years of enterprise infrastructure experience, including design, administration, and troubleshooting
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments (on-premises and public cloud)
- Working knowledge of cloud governance, policy enforcement, and cost management practices.
- Ability to automate infrastructure provisioning and management using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux server platforms
- Hands-on experience with enterprise cloud infrastructure technologies
- Experience with automation frameworks and CI/CD-style infrastructure workflows
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms (AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Datadog, or similar)
- Solid understanding of storage and networking fundamentals
- Experience with backup and recovery solutions
- Strong problem-solving skills and an ownership mindset
