Job Summary: The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing Transthoracic echocardiograms, setting up and assisting with Transesophageal Echocardiograms, and, under the direction of a trained echocardiographer, setting up and performing exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms to the standards set forth by the American Society of Echocardiography and Froedtert Hospital. This individual demonstrates increasing competency in delivering care to a primarily adult population. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of experience as a cardiac sonographer.
• Proficiency in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, and Transesophageal echocardiograms.
• Ability to provide echocardiography services at various locations, work variable shifts, weekends, and provide emergent call coverage as scheduled.
• Experience operating equipment necessary for procedures, including transducers, digital networking systems, and offline analysis systems.
• Ability to recognize basic cardiac pathology and analyze patient medical records for diagnostic procedures.
• Preparation of preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologists, including comparison of previous studies.
• Experience in setting up and assisting with Transesophageal Echocardiograms, cleaning and sterilizing TEE probes, and performing TEE probe leakage testing.
• Participation in quality improvement activities, evaluation of procedure results for technical quality and accuracy, and maintenance of appropriate logs, files, and records.
• Preparation and instruction of patients pre- and post-procedure.
• Utilization of ultrasound contrast according to ASE guidelines and department policy, including understanding and explanation of potential side effects.

Required Education:

• Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree.
• Successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP-approved School of Ultrasound Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or equivalent education.

Preferred Education:

• Previous healthcare-related training such as CNA, EMT, or PCA is preferred.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA-approved equivalent.
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound.
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from CCI
