Fleet Operations Lead

Veteran Hiring Solutions

Maintenance Operations Commander

Lead a high-performance maintenance operation that keeps a critical fleet and heavy equipment safe, reliable, and mission-ready. This role ensures all vehicles and assets remain operational -- supporting essential service delivery and the teams who depend on consistent equipment uptime. Success means building a culture where safety, accountability, and technician development are the foundation of every shift.

Achieve 95%+ equipment availability across all fleet assets through proactive maintenance scheduling and rapid repair turnaround. Enforce a zero-incident safety standard through daily toolbox talks, disciplined LOTO procedures, and compliance training. Coach and develop a team of diesel technicians, fostering cross-training, skill growth, and diagnostic readiness. Identify and implement process improvements that reduce unplanned downtime and increase overall shop productivity. Maintain disciplined budget control across labor, parts, and vendor repairs while sustaining high service quality. Ensure all maintenance records meet applicable federal, state, and internal audit standards.

Hands-on, lead-from-the-floor style; earns trust through credibility and presence. Views safety and mentorship as core leadership behaviors -- not add-ons. Confident diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Decisive under pressure; prioritizes people and process equally. Communicates clearly across levels -- from technicians to senior leadership. Models integrity, respect, and continuous improvement.

Equipment doesn't fail in a vacuum -- it fails people. The leader in this role is the critical link between operational safety, service reliability, and the community that depends on it. This is not a desk job. It is a leadership role for someone who takes pride in precision, develops technicians who take pride in their work, and understands that a well-run shop is a direct expression of organizational values.

Required experience must have served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Reserves, or U.S. National Guard. Proven success managing fleet or heavy-equipment maintenance operations in transportation, industrial, or municipal environments. Strong technical background in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics. Demonstrated leadership in technician training, performance management, and culture building.

Estimated compensation range: $95,000 $115,000 annually (based on experience). Comprehensive benefits typically include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and professional development pathways.
