• Pay Rate: $60.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 12-hour nights (4x12); 18:45-07:15; 36 or 48 hours accepted

Job Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position in the Medical-Surgical specialty at a healthcare facility in Wilmington, NC. The unit serves patients with severe injuries to bones, joints, and/or soft tissue; traumatic brain injuries; spine injuries and pain; neurological trauma/nerve damage (small population); and subdural hematoma. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer heparin drips, PCA, and blood product administration
• Provide colostomy care, feeding tube care and management
• Perform central line care/management and peripheral line care/management
• Perform phlebotomy, PICC line management, and IV starts
• Manage dysrhythmias and apply O2 Protocol Management
• Provide non-invasive airway management including nasal cannula and oral suctioning
• Apply isolation precautions/PPE protocols
• Provide care for patients with traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, and spinal cord injuries
• Manage surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
• Perform tracheostomy management and wound care
• Document using Epic electronic health records system
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Work every other weekend as assigned
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments as required

Required Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical nursing required within the last 5 years
• Must be able to take heparin drips

Education Requirements

• Active RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience required within the last 5 years
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Night shift: 12-hour nights, 18:45-07:15; 36 or 48 hours accepted per week
• Target patient ratios: 1:6-7 (must be comfortable with these ratios)
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Traveler will be assigned to every other weekend
• Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team
• Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur; contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
• Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
• Scrubs: Navy
• Unit orientation: 12-hour unit orientation; 16-hour organizational education
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• COVID-19: Not required

Important Notes

• RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
• RTO maximum: 7 days (Aya Auto Offer limit).
• Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; reporting during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster situations may be required.
