As part of our team, you play a vital role in delivering energy we all rely on, and you'll make a meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.Our Supply, Trading and Optimization (ST&O) group represents Suncor in global energy commodity markets and continues to expand its crude, refined products, natural gas, power, environmental products, and freight trading platform.We are seeking a Middle Office Manager for Crude, Refined Products and Freight, with deep commercial commodity and freight risk control experience to join our global Middle Office Risk leadership team, based in Houston, TX. This role provides functional leadership, governance ownership, and strategic risk oversight across international commodity and freight trading activities. As a Manager in Risk, you will be accountable for the end‐to‐end product and market risk control oversight framework supporting Suncor’s global trading activities, including physical and derivative crude and refined products and freight trading.**What we offer:**We recognize your contribution and offer a range of rewards and development opportunities designed to support your success. Benefits/perks listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Suncor and the region where you work.* **Compensation:** Annual incentive bonus program with a 20% target, 401(k) plan with up to a 6% vested match, pre-tax, Roth, and post-tax options, an automatic 1.5% profit sharing contribution, and Suncor-funded cash balance defined benefit pension plan (vests in 3 years)* **Benefits:** Competitive and flexible employee benefits package that can be adjusted to suit the changing needs of your life, including: 3 medical options (including HSA and FSA options), 2 dental options, vision coverage, and an Employee Assistance Plan* **Generous time-off:** Vacation program (based on credited prior experience) as well as 12 additional personal paid time off days annually* **Talent development programs:** Internal mobility, succession planning, and employee training and development programs are just a few ways we’re dedicated to your development**Minimum Requirements:*** 10+ years’ experience in commodity trading (Front, Middle, or Back Office), with strong exposure to marine activity, oil and freight trading* University Degree, preferably Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Computer Science* Strong understanding of commodity risk management across derivatives, physical crude, freight and refined products, including trading lifecycle, market risk, and risk control* Experience as team lead, and ideally managing a team across desks and time zones* Solid understanding of risk governance frameworks, industry best practices, and derivative regulatory/compliance environments* Proven ability to operate effectively in complex trading environments, synthesizing data and communicating clearly across global stakeholders and senior management* Demonstrated capability to build and enhance commodity risk management frameworks while maintaining independence and objective oversight of Front Office activitiesDon’t have all the qualifications listed? We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills.**Responsibilities:*** Lead, coach, and develop a Middle Office risk team supporting the global commodity trading desk* Oversee daily North American risk exposure and P&L reporting, serving as primary risk contact for Houston Crude, Products, and Freight desks in close coordination with Calgary, Canada and London, UK* Act as senior escalation point for risk issues and complex transactions, ensuring compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and approved market risk limits (exposure, VaR, stop loss)* Partner with Trading and Commercial teams to support new business initiatives, providing transparent analysis of complex transactions and key financial drivers* Own and strengthen the risk governance framework, driving regional and global process standardization, automation, control enhancements, and improved management reporting* Conduct ad hoc market and quantitative analysis, support cross-functional initiatives (including audits and IFRS reconciliation), and apply deep expertise in physical and financial energy markets**Location and other Key details:*** You will work out of the Houston office, located at 2 Allen Centre, 1200 Smith St* This role is office based, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs* In alignment with Suncor’s value of Safety Above All Else, we conduct pre-employment drug testing, employment verification, education verification, background checks, and other pre-employment assessments as a condition of employment; Suncor is a drug and alcohol-free workplace* Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work**Think we are a fit?
