Surgical First Assistant

Overview The Surgical Assistant II works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon under the direction and supervision of that surgeon, in accordance with hospital policy and applicable laws and regulations. The role is part of a multidisciplinary surgical team, collaborating with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high‑quality patient care. Location Woodbridge, VA Work Shift First (Days) Education Trade School (Required) Certification / Licensure Surgical Assistant License (Required) Graduates of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant Program Experience Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up tables, positioning, providing retraction, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incision, instillation of medications, application of dressings, splints, and casts. Performs preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care. Communicates effectively across interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrates in‑depth clinical and technical skills in three surgical specialties. Participates in departmental improvement efforts, quality improvement projects, and in‑services.
