Duties
Help
You will independently resolve complex material quality and receipt inspection discrepancies (RIDLs) to prevent delays in ship and submarine repairs.
You will interpret Navy standards to write local engineering instructions, technical procedures, and material validation methods.
You will review and approve technical designs, vendor certifications, and test reports to ensure shipboard systems are safe and compliant.
You will mentor, train, and guide junior technicians and project engineers on complex material requirements and specifications.
You will develop new quality control methods and propose updated local engineering policies when standard procedures do not apply.
You will collaborate as a lead technical liaison with project teams, contractors, and ship crews to resolve material and quality conflicts.
You will evaluate alternative manufacturing or sourcing options for hard-to-find and obsolete shipboard parts to keep maintenance on schedule.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
GS-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: resolving technical discrepancies and mentoring junior engineering staff by applying Navy standards and interpreting corporate level policies to derive local-level instructions to maintain strict quality control and operational safety across shipboard systems.
GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-10) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: reviewing and interpreting shipboard maintenance requirements and manufacturing processes by working independently within established technical practices and collaborating with lead engineers to ensure the accurate material certification and mechanical readiness of naval vessels.
