Construction/Maintenance Technician I/ II

The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) is searching for an experienced Construction/Maintenance Technician. This role will provide maintenance services to keep the facility building, grounds, and equipment in good repair. If you have two years or more experience in the building trades, or a combination of education and experience, we encourage you to apply.

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, repair or upkeep of buildings, grounds or other state property, requiring no license. This may include assisting in the construction or renovation of buildings, general maintenance and upkeep of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical and other systems, minor repairs to machinery or other equipment, and general maintenance of grounds or lawns.

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing carpentry work in the construction or renovation of buildings or additions to existing structures; erecting and maintaining scaffolds, sheds, forms, frames, fences and other structures; altering and repairing doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows, screens, and other fixtures; fitting and glazing glass in windows and doors; maintaining and repairing roofs.
• Installing, replacing, altering, maintaining and repairing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, traps, faucets; making minor repairs to laundry equipment, sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment and other equipment using water, steam air, or other feed line and return or waste disposal lines.
• Maintaining and repairing light fixtures, receptacles and switches; replacing light bulbs; maintaining generators and motors; oiling and cleaning motors; troubleshooting and making electrical repairs not requiring a license; maintaining and making minor repairs to various types of heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, such as components, pumps, fans, humidifiers, electric motors, and heat exchangers.
• Installing and maintaining locks and other security devices; repairing or replacing tumblers, springs and other parts; cutting new or duplicate keys; using files, hand tools and special equipment to change combinations or shorten tumblers.
• Constructing, maintaining and repairing concrete and other foundations; building retaining walls, walks, fireplaces, chimneys, stairways and similar projects; mixing mortar and laying common brick, face brick, cinder brick, concrete block, stone, terra cotta or other materials.
• Operating, maintaining and repairing various types of equipment used in construction and maintenance of building and grounds, such as trucks, tractors, bulldozers, power shovels, cranes or semi-trailer tractors, fork lifts, mowers and edgers.

Other duties include demonstrating knowledge of and supporting mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. Ability to multi-task and adapt to demanding and changing timelines. Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion, integrity and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy. Ability to work effectively in a team environment while building strong relationships with all levels of staff and effectively collaborating, communicating, respecting, and assisting peers.

Compensation: Annual Salary: $40,000

Minimum qualifications for Construction/Maintenance Tech I include two years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum qualifications for Construction/Maintenance Tech II include four years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special requirements include possessing a valid Oklahoma driver's license and being willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position. Must be able to pass OSBI and FBI background check. A trial period of 12 months will be required.
