Surgical Technologist

Overview The Surgical Technologist provides technical expertise and patient care assistance to support the delivery of optimum quality care to patients in the Operating Room (OR). This is a full-time role based in Edina, MN at the Crosstown Surgery Center with Monday - Friday, 10-hour shifts (6:00 AM - 4:30 PM), totaling 40 hours per week on a block schedule. Responsibilities Assist with obtaining equipment and supplies for the scheduled procedure and prepare the surgical suite. Prepare sterile instrument tables, checking instruments and supplies for cleanliness and proper function. Ensure all needed instruments and supplies are available, including complete sets with no missing items prior to incision. Create and maintain an aseptic surgical environment throughout the intraoperative period. Assist the surgeon(s) and other surgical team members with all phases of the surgical procedure. Apply knowledge of surgical procedures to anticipate the needs of the surgeon(s) during the intraoperative phase. Label medications in compliance with departmental policies. Demonstrate competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment unique to the OR for all types of procedures. Handle specimens obtained during procedures according to policies and procedures. Clean and return specialty instruments and equipment to the proper locations prior to the end of the shift. Assist with cleaning the OR between cases and after the last case of the day. Assist the Circulating Nurse during procedures with activities appropriate to the role. Decontaminate, inspect, and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization. Collaborate with other disciplines to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth surgical experience. Report occurrences through the center’s established reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events. Foster the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees, and students (including functioning as a preceptor). Participate in continuing education to foster career and skill development and meet departmental requirements. Assist in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of the surgery center. Perform any other duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate from an ARC/STSA or CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or equivalent military education. Surgical Technologist Certification through NBSTSA. One year of Operating Room experience in the last 3 years. Current member of the ST is preferred. Current BLS certification or the ability to obtain upon hire. Benefits & Compensation Actual starting pay varies based on education, skills, and experience. The range shown is for reference and may differ by location and qualifications. A $3,500 sign-on bonus is offered and payable on the first paycheck with a 12-month commitment. Internal applicants are not eligible for the sign-on bonus. We offer a comprehensive benefits package. Working Conditions Frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift. Ability to perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, and reaching. Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents. Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly.
