Registration Specialist

Job Description Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Onsite) Location: Methodist Medical Plaza South Department: Primary Care Role Summary Facilitates patient flowfrom entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. Ensures accurate collection of demographic and financial information to support reimbursement and clinical outcomes. Provides front-line support through scheduling, registration, and patient communication. Key Responsibilities Manage incoming calls and direct patients/visitors appropriately Perform patient check-in and check-out processes Verify and update insurance information Monitor and resolve insurance-related errors Manage Cerner pool messages Schedule patient appointments Collect payments and explain charges/policies Enter charges accurately into appropriate systems Training & Benchmarks First 3 Months: Comfortable with patient check-in/out Begin answering phones 6 Months: Increased role proficiency Improved understanding of workflows and responsibilities 12 Months: Fully functional and independent in role Onboarding: 6 weeks total (mentor support + web-based training) Team Environment Works primarily within Primary Care teams Collaborative, patient-focused setting Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or GED Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Preferred: Experience in a healthcare setting Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical practices Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding Ability to interpret insurance information Skills for Success Compassionate and patient-focused Strong initiative and accountability Strategic thinker with problem-solving abilities Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills CMAA certification is helpful About Us Indiana University Health has nearly 40,000 team members, including more than 3,600 physicians and 1,200 advanced practice providers, and we're home to the largest nursing network in Indiana with more than 9,000 nursing team members at over 800 sites of care.
