Job Title: Mammography Tech Profession: Mammography Tech Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred License: OBMI and ARRT registered Mammography technologist Certifications: Current BLS certification; CRASE training if assignment extends beyond 6 months is required Must-Have: Bachelor’s or Associate degree from a Radiologic Technology accredited program Description: Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Performs medical imaging techniques to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Corroborates patient's clinical history with the procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for licensed practitioners. Prepares patients for procedures and instructs them to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Selects and operates radiography equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results. Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting patient comfort. Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination. Determines radiographic technique exposure factors, minimizing exposure to patients and others. Evaluates images for technical quality and assures proper identification is recorded. Verifies informed consent for interventional procedures and assists a licensed practitioner. Practices aseptic techniques as necessary. Assumes responsibility for the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures. Prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, as permitted by state statutes or policy. Supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Participates in required education as applicable to the position. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Requires sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and communication. Clear and effective communication is essential for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes. Tactile perception is important for assessing physical characteristics during patient care. Motor coordination is required for handling and performing tasks necessary for medical procedures. The position involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and carry or reposition objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds is needed. Occasional lifting or transferring of individuals may occur, requiring appropriate lifting techniques and assistance. Working Conditions: This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. Frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases and hazardous materials is expected, with protocols for safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) adherence. The healthcare environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring quick responses to changing circumstances. The work setting involves multiple demands and varying levels of noise due to equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
