Registered Practical Nurse - Part Time (Cambridge)

THE ROLE We are recruiting an experienced Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our senior care team. The RPN will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse, report to the Director of Care, and provide nursing and personal care to residents, including charge nurse duties as assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist residents with daily routines such as bathing, dressing, undressing, and eating meals as required. Review the 24–72 hour report at the beginning of each shift. Follow and process physician orders. Administer medications and treatments within the limits set by the College of Nurses. Observe and monitor residents’ conditions and report changes in physical or mental health to the Registered Nurse. Ensure compliance with required nursing care techniques. Maintain resident safety and report incidents or accidents to the Registered Nurse. Participate in developing and modifying resident care plans and evaluate their effectiveness. Record and document care in compliance with established standards and legislative requirements. Cooperate in life enrichment programs and restorative care initiatives. Assist in training and directing non‑registered nursing staff under the RN’s direction. Collaborate with the health care team and maintain positive relationships with other staff members. Participate in meetings, committees, and quality assurance activities. Operate the unit as directed by the Registered Nurse and comply with the quality assurance model. Adhere to health and safety guidelines, report hazards, and use personal protective equipment as required. Engage in infection prevention and control practices and utilize the Infection Control Surveillance Program on Point Click Care. Report injuries, potential hazards, or incidents to the immediate supervisor promptly. Maintain a clean and orderly work area and use equipment safely. Comply with WSIB policies, confidentiality requirements, and return‑to‑work procedures. Attend in‑service education, mandatory education, and maintain professional competency. Pursue ongoing learning and maintain reflective practice requirements. Function under direct supervision and provide direction to subordinates as needed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Current medication administration certificate or equivalent. Current certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing. Registered with a regulatory body. Experience in long‑term care is an asset. Experience working with seniors and unregulated care providers. Education and/or experience in gerontology, rehabilitation, community/complex/long‑term care is an asset. Solid written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management, and customer‑focus skills.
