Buildings And Grounds Patrol Officer

Position Title Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer – Safety and Security Department, State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Part‑time, 32 hours per week, second shift 3:00 pm–11:00 pm (shift differential eligible). Location: 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT. The role maintains safety for veterans, residents, visitors, and staff. Key Responsibilities Enforce rules and regulations, guard entrances and exits, prevent trespassing, vandalism, theft. Perform vehicle and foot patrols of DVA campus buildings, cemeteries, and other state locations. Operate and monitor cameras, access control systems, fire alarm system to deter crime and maintain safety. Assist patients, residents, staff, and visitors, provide first aid when needed. Distribute traffic control, issue tickets for violations, provide information and assistance to visitors. Record incidents, complete reports, dispatch and maintain logs at a desk post. Perform fire prevention/support and other security duties as required. Qualifications Minimum: Any experience or training that demonstrates the required skills (interpersonal, communication, emergency judgment). Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (may be required). Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification (may be required). Preferred: Experience in security or public safety. Experience conducting vehicle/foot patrols and preventing trespassing. Experience writing incident reports, dispatching calls, using radio communication. Experience working with individuals facing substance abuse, mental health, or anger issues. Physical & Working Conditions Good health and physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance, visual and auditory acuity. May require outdoor work, prolonged walking and standing, and some danger of injury. May be required to pass a physical examination.
