Occupational Therapist (OT)

Lakes International Language Academy (LILA) is an award-winning language immersion public charter school in Forest Lake, Minnesota. LILA prepares tomorrow's critical thinkers and global citizens through language acquisition and inquiry-driven study. Convenient to both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, LILA is located close to the 35W-35E split in the North Metro. Job Summary Work to provide services (including fine motor, sensory and behavior) to students with disabilities based on their Individual Education Program (IEP) needs and in collaboration with the IEP Team. Services are provided at both of LILA's campuses in Forest Lake, MN, and may require travel between sites on a daily basis. Additional duties include comprehensive evaluations, developing IEP services and accommodations, and documenting services for insurance billing. Work is performed under the direction of the district's Director of Special Education. Essential Functions Supports with development, implementation, and coordination of Lakes International Language Academy's occupational therapy program including philosophy, vision, procedures and goals. Collaborates with occupational therapy team, special education team, and staff members to best meet individual student needs and overall school needs. Implement treatment plans and individualized education plans with the IEP team. Supports scheduling students and communication for direct and indirect services. Collaborates with staff to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs, as well as student outcomes. Complete paperwork expectations such as daily notes, progress reports, evaluation reports, and updates for goals and objectives Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention at both campuses to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment. Documents occupational therapy services, and maintains records in accordance with school district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations. Trial sensory activities to support students' specific needs and carry out sensory breaks as needed, along with providing education on sensory breaks to paraprofessionals. Approximately two days of the week are anticipated to be providing services at the lower school (Pre‑K to 5th grade) and the remaining days would be at the upper school (6th to 12th grade). Qualifications Bachelor or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy Licensure with the Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy NBCOT Certification Preferences Experience working as an occupational therapist Experience working in an educational setting Spanish or Mandarin Chinese language proficiency is helpful, but not a must Work in a diverse culture: Many of our teachers were born in Mandarin and Spanish speaking countries. Nearly all have traveled extensively, with the large majority having lived in a Mandarin or Spanish speaking country for at least a semester. Social functions: Our district and school is a close-knit community and we plan fun events throughout the school year to get together and connect outside of school. Professional Development: LILA provides professional development for new staff depending on needs and interest, but always including best practices of teachers in the International Baccalaureate programs and building a safe and inviting classroom climate for learning. Career Track and Advancement: Many leadership positions are available to Lakes International teachers, depending on their interests, efforts, and expertise. Grants to Teachers: The LILA Foundation frequently offers "Inquiry 360" grants to teachers to pursue enriching experiences that they can bring back to share in the classroom. Teachers are encouraged to pursue these experiences abroad. Inquiry 360 grants are competitive and are awarded in April for use the following summer.
