Senior Quality Technician

The Senior Quality Technician is an advanced technical contributor responsible for ensuring conformance of high‑performance plastic components to customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. This role builds upon the core inspection and testing responsibilities of the Quality Technician with advanced metrology expertise, data analysis, regulatory knowledge, and problem‑solving leadership . Part inspections will entail use of CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) hardware and software. Proficient CMM operation; demonstrated ability to develop or modify CMM programs preferred.

The Senior Quality Technician independently supports complex inspection activities, customer requirements, and quality investigations for aerospace, aviation, automotive and other critical application products. This position also provides technical mentorship to Quality Technicians while serving as a key interface between Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain. Independent decision-making.

Inspection, Testing & Metrology

• Perform advanced in‑process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height stands, optical systems, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).

• Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot advanced CMM programs for complex, tight‑tolerance components.

• Define inspection strategies and measurement methods for new products and engineering changes.

• Review and approve inspection results for critical or high‑risk parts

Quality Systems & Compliance

• Apply and interpret quality system requirements including AS9100, IATF 16949 , and applicable customer‑specific requirements.

• Support internal, customer, and third‑party audits through preparation of evidence, participation during audits, and follow‑up of corrective actions.

• Maintain and support calibration, inspection, and document control processes.

APQP, PPAP & FAIR Support

• Lead or independently complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) and PPAP submissions .

• Participate in the development of control plans, inspection plans, and risk mitigation activities.

• Ensure quality requirements are properly flowed down to inspection and manufacturing processes.

Non‑Conforming Material & Root Cause Analysis

• Lead investigations of non‑conforming material using structured problem‑solving methods (e.g., 5‑Why, Fishbone, 8D).

• Recommend and validate corrective and preventive actions to ensure effectiveness.

• Support containment actions and customer communications related to quality escapes.

Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

• Generate and interpret SPC data, trend analyses, and process capability (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk) .

• Identify systemic quality risks and improvement opportunities.

• Support Lean, Six Sigma, and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives related to quality performance.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Quality Technicians and Inspectors.

• Assist with training and qualification of inspection techniques, GD&T interpretation, and quality tools.

• Act as a technical resource or interim lead in the absence of the Lead Quality Technician.

Cross‑Functional & Customer Interface

• Interface directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain on quality and inspection requirements.

• Support responses to customer questions regarding inspection methods, results, and documentation.

Assist in customer containment activities as required.

Required

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

• 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing quality role

• Strong experience with precision measuring equipment and advanced inspection techniques.

• Proficient CMM operation and programming skills.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

• Working knowledge of AS9100 and/or IATF 16949 quality management systems.

• Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred

• Associate’s degree or higher in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related technical field.

• Experience in engineering‑grade plastics, composites, or high‑temperature polymer manufacturing .

• Experience supporting aerospace or automotive customers.

• Training or certification in Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt), GD&T, or ASQ (CQT / CQI).

• Exposure to automated inspection, vision systems, or advanced data analysis tools.
