Job Overview

The Ultrasound Technician (Sonographer) is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols and standards. The role includes preparing patients, operating ultrasound equipment, capturing high-quality images, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and experienced in various types of sonographic procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and ultrasound equipment for procedures.
• Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and small parts (as applicable).
• Explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients.
• Capture, analyze, and document diagnostic images and provide preliminary technical impressions.
• Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and the medical team to ensure accurate image interpretation and patient care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and complete documentation in the electronic medical record system (EMR).
• Ensure compliance with CorePlus protocols, HIPAA regulations, and safety standards.
• Perform regular cleaning and basic maintenance of ultrasound equipment.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Attend required trainings, certifications, and staff meetings.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or completion of an accredited ultrasound technician program.

Experience:

Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a clinical setting preferred.

Proficient in general and/or vascular sonography.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive patient interactions with compassion.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Fluent in Spanish and English (oral and written).
• Proficient in using PACS and EMR systems.

Clinical/lab environment with exposure to patients and medical equipment.

Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting up to 25 lbs, and assisting patients during procedures.
