Driver II

This part-time position is responsible for transporting the general public, including older adults and persons with disabilities from one location to another in the safest manner possible by means of Harvey Interurban vehicles. This is a career progression series opportunity. Employees are eligible for progression through the listed classification series based on attaining the minimum qualifications for each level and meeting performance measures.

Essential functions include providing curb-to-curb transportation to and from scheduled destinations for residents, assisting passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle, maintaining county vehicle with daily visual inspections, cleanliness, routine and necessary maintenance, performing daily pre- and post-trip safety inspections, maintaining accurate daily records of passenger logs, completing all written documentation accurately and in a timely manner, collecting ridership fares and delivering to Transportation Coordinator daily, ensuring all activities are carried out in a safe manner, adhering to all County safety regulations, reporting all accidents to the appropriate authority, communicating concerns to and performing additional duties for the Transportation Coordinator, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum required qualifications for Driver I include a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience or training in a similar role, and must possess a valid Kansas driver's license with an excellent driving record. Minimum required qualifications for Driver II include meeting the qualifications of the Driver I and must possess a Kansas Commercial driver's license (CDL).

Knowledge, skills and abilities include knowledge of operating and servicing vehicles, knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing vehicle operation, knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the County, ability to learn and accurately use computer software, skill in organizational and time management, skill to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently, ability to safely secure, and assist those with mobility devices in and out of the vehicle via ramp or lift, ability to read street maps and safely operate a vehicle while adjusting driving routes to road conditions, weather, and other hazards, ability to maintain confidentiality of all resident care information and assure resident rights and privacy are protected at all times per HIPAA, ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations, ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures, ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision, ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations, ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position, ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions, ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations, ability to communicate detailed and often sensitive information effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, ability to handle sensitive interpersonal situations calmly and tactfully, ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and outside the organization, and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding business-related files, reports and conversations, within the provision of Freedom of Information Act and other applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations.
