Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist administration in maintaining an effective operation by monitoring hallways, and surrounding school premises, and help with all scheduled athletic events as assigned.
- Assist and respond to school sites and/or assigned sister school sites to provide assistance in investigations, Emergency Drills, Safe School Plans, and any other assigned duties as needed.
- Monitor and report student behavior and student conduct to site administration when appropriate.
- Check and report tardiness, truancies, student conflicts, and unusual occurrences to the appropriate school administration.
- Escort students to the Principal's Office, Assistant Principal's Office, Counselors, and Nurse's Office as needed.
- Report, record, and write reports of student conduct violations, disturbances, fights, unethical behavior, and/or but not limited to school thefts, and break-ins to site administration.
- Provide in-service training to help administrators and site School Safety Teams be better prepared to deal with safety-related/COVID-19 matters and serve as a team member to support student/staff
- Provide instruction and direction to administrators and staff regarding safety/emergency situations and help with ICS Management as needed during emergency situations/drills.
- Work closely with the principal and school staff to foster a better understanding of school safety functions needed for a secure/safe learning environment.
- Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, security doors left unlocked, and any unusual activity.
- Direct authorized visitors to their proper destination, report, and monitor unauthorized visitors.
- Proactively work with the school's leadership teams and collaborate with the school's administrative team to implement safety plans, protocols, and procedures.
- Provide the leadership and direction to develop, implement, and oversee a district safety program.
- Develops district procedures and implement; implement enforcing set policies and procedures;
- Coordinate monthly checks on district AEDs and provide training
- Coordinate and plan training for required staff on nonviolent crisis intervention, while keeping the log and budget.
- Assist the CCSD Safety Coordinator with the following when necessary/appropriate:
- Patrol District property for suspicious activity, unauthorized persons on campus, or unauthorized entry.
- Conduct routine patrols of assigned District facilities to include buildings, parking lots, and district-owned, leased, or rented property; operate district equipment to include alarm systems, surveillance equipment, and patrol units when necessary.
- Assist law enforcement agencies with incidents involving local criminal activity that may impact the safety of the environment for students and staff. Serve as the initial First Responder for campus emergencies.
- Assist building principals with monthly fire drills, lockdowns, and safety table-top training.
- Distribute/monitor Emergency Drill time-tables to schools and collect/maintain Emergency Drill data.
- Conduct building security assessments for District schools; guard, check, and secure doors, rooms, buildings, and equipment.
- Assist in implementing programs and activities to reduce school violence.
- Collaborates closely with the school resource officers (SRO).
- Makes classroom presentations on program-related topics in coordination with instructional staff.
- Attends scheduled San Juan County Safe Schools and School Resource Officers program meetings.
- Conduct security building assessments for schools.
- Complete daily logs, security violation reports, and incident forms as needed.
- Assist CCSD Safety Coordinator on any internal investigations;
- Assist with the implementation of HB128 at CCSD;
- Assist with the assessment of liability issues and report findings and possible resolution to administrative personnel;
- Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines, and local, state, and federal laws;
- Provide support following the New Mexico School Safety policies and procedures;
- Assist in the development of a district emergency plan and work with local, county, and state officials as deemed necessary;
- Assist with remote positive linkages and referral mechanisms to community providers for a range of services related to student safety;
- Assist in the coordination of the CCSD "Bully Prevention Programs";
- Assist in the coordination/monitoring of continuous improvement of the CCSD School Health Wellness, and Safety programs;
- Provide l support for the collection/reporting of CCSD School Safety program data to reporting agencies;
- Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure;
- Complete and comply with all required training annually;
- Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8);
- Accept other responsibilities and duties assigned by the supervisor, reasonably related to the scope of the job.
- Bachelor's Degree or greater preferred or equivalent in years of work experience
- FEMA ICS 100, FEMA emergency training, EMT, or another related emergency training, or ability to obtain within 3 months
- Five (5) years of Military and /or Law Enforcement experience preferred
- Five (5) years of job-related experience
- Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and community preferred;
- Good communication skills and customer service skills;
- Basic computer knowledge for data processing and records management;
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in high-stress situations;
- Ability to routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data;
- Ability to write and speak English effectively;
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with personnel, the public or private entities;
- Must complete reports, applications, assignments, and other duties assigned within the time frames designated;
- Must be "on-call" for related duties, including evenings, weekends, and athletic events, as assigned to provide maximum security coverage as needed.
- The ability to walk, run, climb crawl or sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to spend extended periods of time patrolling and investigating crimes/COVID-19 cases on District property, both in automobiles and on foot
- Incumbents may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict.
- In extreme cases, the incumbent may be exposed to violent and/or armed confrontations

- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
- Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies, and child abuse/neglect.
- Completed and cleared background check
- Pass drug test if required for the position
- Maintain confidentiality of all students and staff
- Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories are not allowed.
- Requires a Valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record for the past three years, or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
