Blood cancers require advanced treatment from expert providers. Cedars?Sinai's Hematology and Cellular Therapy Program brings together specialists in all areas of blood cancer care to provide you with personalized, compassionate care every step of the way.

The Blood and Marrow Program was established in 1989 and has since performed more than 1,500 bone marrow transplants, including autologous, allogeneic related and CAR-T Therapy. The program has been a National Marrow Donor Program/Be The Match transplant center since 2001, and is authorized to treat patients with all commercially available CAR-T cell products.

The program is one of only two in the country offering bloodless bone marrow transplant to Jehovah's Witnesses with lymphoma, multiple myeloma and other blood cancers. Cedars-Sinai Blood and Marrow Transplant program ranks in the Top 10 in the U.S. for patient survival. The program's one-year allogeneic transplant survival results are higher than the expected rate, with superior outcomes.

Under the leadership of the Director, the Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership for Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants within the Hematology and Cellular Therapy service line. The Lead provides leadership, direction, supervision, and specialty collaborative patient management in partnership with board-certified/board-eligible physicians.

The Lead APP functions as an expert clinician and operational leader, promoting excellence in patient care, professional practice, staff development, education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The role supports the effective daily operation of the APP team and serves as a catalyst for continuous improvement and positive organizational change.

The Lead APP combines advanced clinical expertise with people leadership and operational accountability to strengthen the APP workforce and advance the clinical, quality, educational, and strategic objectives of Cedars-Sinai's Hematology and Cellular Therapy Program.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Operational Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, supervision, mentorship, and professional development for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants within the service line.
• Support daily operations, staffing, workflow, and appropriate APP coverage across the continuum of care.
• Promote clinical excellence, accountability, professional development, and consistent standards of practice.
• Implement and maintain Advanced Health Practitioner (AHP) programmatic and competency requirements.
• Support AHP program development, credentialing, privileging, competency assessment, and peer-review processes.
• Promote staff growth through mentoring, continuing education, performance development, and succession planning.
• Participate in short- and long-term strategic planning, quality and performance improvement, research, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Serve as an interdepartmental and intradepartmental liaison among APPs, physicians, nursing leadership, administration, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Promote patient advocacy and safe, high-quality, culturally responsive, and patient-centered care.
• Maintain required professional licensure, certifications, specialty competencies, credentialing, and clinical privileges applicable to the individual's professional discipline and scope of practice.

Inpatient Clinical Management

• Evaluate and manage patients admitted to the Hematology and Cellular Therapy Service, including patients undergoing CAR T-cell therapy and allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
• Assess and manage acute treatment-related toxicities and complications, including cytokine release syndrome (CRS), graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), neutropenic fever, and infections, in collaboration with the attending physician and multidisciplinary team.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies, including laboratory testing and imaging, and collaborate with the attending physician to develop and modify treatment plans.
• Perform specialty procedures within approved scope, competency, and privileges, including bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, administration of intrathecal chemotherapy, and access of Ommaya reservoirs.
• Coordinate care across the multidisciplinary team and facilitate transitions throughout the inpatient episode and discharge process.
• Provide comprehensive education to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, expected course of therapy, potential complications, symptom management, and follow-up care.

Outpatient Clinical Management

• Evaluate and manage Hematology and Cellular Therapy patients receiving bispecific antibody therapy, CAR T-cell therapy, and bone marrow/stem cell transplantation in the Outpatient Cellular Therapy Unit.
• Provide longitudinal assessment and management of patients before, during, and following cellular therapy and transplantation.
• Conduct symptom triage and provide timely evaluation and management of treatment-related symptoms, side effects, toxicities, and complications in the outpatient setting.
• Coordinate and provide supportive care in collaboration with the infusion center and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
• Recognize changes in clinical status requiring a higher level of care and facilitate inpatient admission or other escalation of care when clinically appropriate.
• Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment plans, symptom recognition, potential complications, and when to seek additional medical attention.

Qualifications

Education (NP):

• Master of Nursing Degree.
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered.

Education (PA-C):

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
• Bachelor's degree

Experience Requirements:

• A minimum of five (5) years of inpatient experience as an NP/PA with a focus on malignant hematology, including Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and CAR T therapy.
• Experience in critical care inpatient settings is desirable.

Licensure/Certifications Requirements:

• NP
