Job Title: Assembler
Job Description
The Assembly Technician builds metal frames for large electrical switchboards in a production bay and completes full mechanical assembly and basic wire harness assembly on each unit. Working from blueprints and simple schematics at an individual workstation, this role focuses on repetitive yet varied assembly work, ensuring each custom switchboard meets customer specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Build metal frames for large electrical switchboards in a production bay using hand and power tools.
Follow blueprints and customer specifications to assemble custom switchboards at a dedicated workbench.
Measure parts accurately with a tape measure and verify dimensions against blueprints before assembly.
Use hand tools and power drills to construct and secure mechanical components of the switchboards.
Perform repetitive assembly tasks on a day‑to‑day basis while maintaining high attention to detail and quality.
Adapt to slight variations in each customer’s unit, assembling switchboards that are similar in size and structure but not identical.
Read and follow simple electrical schematics to assemble wire harnesses for each unit.
Mount completed wire harnesses onto the switchboards, ensuring proper routing and secure connections.
Work safely on a small step ladder approximately 90 inches off the ground to assemble the top sections of switchboards.
Lift and position heavier components, including copper bars weighing up to 50–70 pounds, as needed during assembly.
Work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, squatting, kneeling, and using step stools, to access different parts of the unit.
Maintain a clean and organized workstation and adhere to production and assembly line processes.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel‑toe or composite‑toe footwear, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection in designated areas.
Collaborate with supervisors, leads, and coworkers during training and ongoing production to continuously improve assembly quality and efficiency.
Remain self‑motivated and productive while working individually for much of the time, once training is complete.
Essential Skills
High attention to detail in mechanical and electrical assembly work.
Proven ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
Ability to safely operate power drills and other common hand and power tools.
Solid mechanical aptitude, including experience working with hands in mechanical or similar settings.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed, including handling copper bars that may weigh 50–70 pounds.
Comfort working approximately 90 inches (about 7 feet) off the ground using a small step ladder.
Willingness to work in awkward or uncomfortable positions, including frequent up‑and‑down movement, sitting, squatting, kneeling, and using step stools.
Ownership of steel‑toe or composite‑toe footwear suitable for a production environment.
Ability to work in a repetitive assembly environment while maintaining consistent quality.
Previous assembly experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Experience reading blueprints preferred.
Ability to follow simple electrical schematics to support wire harness assembly preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with mechanical assembly of large equipment or structures.
Experience in electrical assembly, electronic assembly, or electrical wiring.
Familiarity with soldering and working with small electronic parts and PCBs.
Experience with general labor, production, assembly line, or assembly production environments.
Comfort using a variety of hand and power tools for mechanical and electrical tasks.
Experience with small parts assembly and wiring while reading blueprints is ideal.
GED or high school diploma is not required; strong mechanical aptitude is highly valued.
Ability to remain self‑directed and productive when working individually after training.
