Position Summary Sign-On Bonus Available. The Ophthalmic Technician will assist the Ophthalmologist with diagnostic and treatment-oriented procedures and administrative tasks under the general guidance of the Practice Manager and Physician. Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved program for Ophthalmology Assistants (COA, COT, COMT). Experience Requirements Previous experience in an ophthalmology office. Skills & Qualifications BCLS certification preferred. Understanding of the operations of a medical practice. High quality, cost-effective, comprehensive medical care orientation. Effective organizational and time management skills to set priorities and respond quickly to urgent/emergent situations. Strong communication skills—oral, written, and presentation—to convey information clearly to varied audiences. Knowledge of ultrasound, visual field, OCT, a‑scan (e.g., IOL Master), fundus camera, slit lamp, and other office equipment. Basic knowledge of ocular and systemic diseases. Computer and typing skills for efficient use of the Electronic Health Record system. Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices for treating the eye and diagnosing ocular disease. Knowledge of medical terminology. People skills for consistently positive patient interactions. Ability to multitask efficiently. Calm and effective action in busy or stressful situations. Effective communication in English—personally, by phone, and in writing. Adherence to all policies and procedures, including safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance standards. Effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management, and peers. Potential rotation to other VMG locations as needed.
