Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant Job Purpose Prepares income and balance sheet statements, supports general ledger maintenance under general supervision. Benefits Competitive compensation package of minimum $56,000 – maximum $70,000 (DOE) Vacation: minimum of two weeks Sick days: 5 days Holidays: 12 days; 8 standard and 4 floating Other benefits: 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental and vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, voluntary long‑term disability Key Responsibilities Organize monthly general ledger activity for input into the accounting system. Monitor account balances, make necessary adjustments, and prepare journal entries. Prepare and process documentation for internal and external auditors. Identify and investigate accounting system problems as needed. Work closely with field staff to ensure accuracy of accounting information. Prepare income and balance sheet statements and other accounting reports for submission to the Department Lead. Review and verify accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications. Conduct special studies and recommend accounting methods and procedures. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and account analysis. Reconcile assigned accounts and calculate depreciation/amortization expenses. Assist with training and mentoring of Accountants. Analyze trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to predict future revenues and expenses. Analyze financial reports and records, making recommendations for reserves, assets, and expenditures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 2 to 5 years of experience in an accounting department. Thorough knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Ability to meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organization skills. Knowledge of automated accounting systems; J.D. Edwards System is a plus. Physical Requirements Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions. Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day) and walk long distances, possibly on uneven surfaces. Push, pull, and lift objects up to 50 lbs, occasionally bending, kneeling, or crouching.
