Community Service Officer

Job Title Community Service Officer Overview The USC Department of Public Safety (DPS) is one of the largest campus public safety departments in the United States. We are seeking a Community Service Officer to support the general safety of the university community through assigned patrol duties, security checks, and assistance with investigations and emergency situations. Responsibilities Patrol an assigned area. Perform prescribed security checks of buildings, offices, and grounds to prevent loss of university assets. Observe and report suspicious activity, persons, or security and/or safety hazards. Conduct investigations of losses in accordance with procedures and directions. Open and/or secure buildings and rooms according to procedures or as directed. Operate and/or monitor electronic door access, closed‑circuit television systems, and other security‑related devices. Dispatch or coordinate responses to situations observed on CCTV and electronic door access. Assist with access at locations with malfunctioning electronic door access systems. Maintain logs and records required to indicate duty times, occurrences, actions taken, observations made, and other relevant information. Prepare and submit reports as required. Implement department procedures governing apprehensions, interrogations, and disposition of cases. Assist with parking control and vehicle/pedestrian security. Direct traffic and give directions. Assist in maintaining perimeter and crowd control in areas of crimes, emergencies, and special activities. Escort university and hospital employees, students, and/or patients between facilities and their vehicles. Assist in crime prevention and public information programs. Implement and enforce OSHA, CAL‑OSHA, and university policies relating to safety, health, and fire prevention. Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and mandatory reporter under the Clery Act. Receive and report crimes or criminal incidents from victims or third parties to the Department of Public Safety and the Clery Compliance Coordinator. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 0–6 months of relevant experience. Valid driver’s license for at least 2 years. Valid State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Guard Card. Valid California Class C driver’s license. Compensation Hourly rate: $21.00. Work Schedule 4/10 alternative schedule; 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
