ASCP Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Operating Room

Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth and safe surgical operations. This role requires adherence to established standards for instrument processing and patient care within a dynamic surgical environment. Essential Responsibilities Assist anesthesia, surgeons, and OR staff with procedural duties and equipment management. Monitor and process instruments and equipment following manufacturer guidelines and industry standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST. Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies. Prioritize tasks effectively, adjusting to changes in department activity and patient needs. Use supplies judiciously to maintain quality care without waste. Quality and Patient Care Support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care. Respond to unexpected changes in patient care requirements and collaborate with the surgical team to adjust plans accordingly. Contribute to updating preference cards, instrument sets, and supply pull sheets as technology and procedures evolve. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately. Patient Satisfaction and Safety Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to prepare instrument and supply setups prior to surgeries. Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient comfort and focus. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies. Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system. Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient safety concerns promptly. Professional Development Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment. Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new staff. Engage in ongoing learning opportunities and participate in departmental goal setting and in-services. Customer Service Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare team members. Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and visitor experience. Be flexible with assignments and shifts to meet department needs. Education and Certification Must be currently certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or hold a current Registered Nurse license. Work Environment This position offers part-time hours with orientation requiring commitment to part-time or full-time availability.
