Job Description for Bus Mechanic with Sandusky City Schools Support Staff

Qualifications:

General: exhibits mature judgment, sense of responsibility, pleasant personality, respect for confidentiality and strong focus on customer relationships. Must enjoy working with a diverse population, be punctual and dependable, exhibit emotional resilience, and demonstrate high standards for students. Ability to successfully complete mandated district, local, state and federal training requirements. Skill: knowledge of school bus mechanics and ability to repair same. Knowledge of computer/diagnostics systems. Holds or willing to earn CDL with school bus endorsement. Physical: 1. Able to: i. maintain stationary positions, position self, ascend and descend for various lengths of time throughout the workday; ii. able to move and traverse self throughout the workday; iii. able to operate technology and equipment; and iv. able to move, transport, position, install, and remove items up to forty (40) pounds, with reasonable accommodations when necessary. 2. Able to demonstrate healthy hygiene habits and clean, neat appearance.

Reports To: Transportation Services Coordinator

Job Responsibility: To maintain school buses in excellent working condition in adherence with local, state and federal rules and regulations.

Critical and Essential Functions

1. Maintain respect for confidential information at all times.

2. Perform computer processing duties as required.

3. Carry out a long term preventative maintenance program on all school buses and vehicles used by the maintenance department, food service truck, school vans, and tractors.

4. Be responsible for oil changes, filters, greasing, etc. as well as repairs necessary to ensure safe operation of vehicles listed above.

5. Requisition of spare parts and materials, and maintain a stock inventory of the same, for the implementation of #1 and #2 above.

6. Make out yearly custodial and maintenance supply requisition/inventory.

7. Inform Transportation Services Coordinator concerning condition and readiness of bus fleet.

8. Maintain servicing records on each vehicle and provide a copy for the Transportation Services Coordinator.

9. Attend workshops and mechanic conferences in which school bus safety and maintenance procedures are taught.

10. Be available to make trouble calls and tow-ins in case of break downs.

11. Prepare buses for annual State Inspections.

12. Be responsible for specs on buses and all school vehicles.

13. Such additional reasonable duties and responsibilities as collaboratively determined between the administrator and individual staff member.
