Parish Bookkeeper/Secretary
Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish in Chamois, MO is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team. This is a part time position; 20-30 hours/week. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the financial and administrative functions of the parish. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Greeting visitors to the office in a professional and friendly manner
- Responding to mail, emails, voicemails and telephone calls
- Assisting other staff members when time, energy and skill permit
- Maintaining accurate records and taking minutes of meetings as directed by pastor
- Serving as secretary to the pastor
- Performing all payroll activities including onboarding employees, employee data maintenance, time & labor, vacation and sick accrual and processes payroll
- Attending parish meetings as required and taking minutes
- Keeping vital statistics for the parish
- Keeping pastor informed of vital concerns within the parish
- Creating a weekly bulletin
- Scheduling Eucharistic ministers
- Clipping and filing all newspaper ads and articles concerning the parish
- Maintaining positive relationship with parish council members and other volunteers
- Maintaining a reasonable inventory of church supplies
- Handling routine questions about policies
- Preparation of payroll, associated taxes and reports
- Preparing bank deposits and records receipts
- Preparing vouchers, including coding and payment of outstanding invoices
- Reconciling parish, school and cemetery books, if applicable
- Preparing financial statements as requested
- Attending parish finance council meetings, as requested
- Maintaining tuition and school accounts, if applicable
- Performing other duties as assigned
Job qualifications include:
- Computer and organizational skills
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- 3 - 5 years previous training or experience as a bookkeeper
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Intermediate and accurate mathematical skills
