Custodian

To provide students, patrons, and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable and clean facility which is conducive to a good learning/working atmosphere.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat, safe and clean at all times.
2. Regulate heat, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for maximum efficiency.
3. Maintains, cleans, and replaces filters in heating and air conditioning equipment for maximum efficiency.
4. Unlocks buildings in the morning and locks all necessary doors at the close of the day to maintain security.
5. Clean corridors after school each day and as directed during the school day.
6. Cleans classrooms, chalkboards, and trash cans daily.
7. Thoroughly clean and disinfect all restroom floors, fixtures, and drinking fountains daily.
8. Make minor repairs as qualified and assigned.
9. Report all major repairs needed promptly to the supervisor.
10. Assume responsibility for lights to maximize energy savings.
11. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance on the school facilities as assigned by supervisor.
12. Move furniture or equipment on campus as required for various activities as directed by supervisor.
13. Complies with all laws regarding storage and disposal of chemicals, trash, rubbish, and other waste.
14. Attends all required training, workshops and programs.
15. Performs other custodial duties as deemed necessary by supervisor for the best management of school facilities.
16. Work hours may vary from site to site and from job to job to best fit the needs of the school district. The working hours may be subject to change.
17. Each custodian shall have the capability for performing the following tasks: A. Replacing ceiling tile B. Change light bulbs (inside and outside) C. Repair floor tile D. Move furniture and chairs E. Haul Trash F. Install and repair playground equipment G. Trim, mow and edge H. Outside painting I. Tighten screws in doors and other equipment J. Clean grounds K. Repair fences L. Set up for programs M. Install tackboards, pencil sharpeners, chalkboards, toilet paper holders, paper towel cabinets, etc. N. Clean flower beds O. Seed, sod, fertilize, and water grass P. Try to unplug stools prior to submitting work request.
18. Perform all other duties that are assigned by the supervisor or Site Principal.

In the terms of an 8 hour workday, "Occasionally" equals 1% - 33%

"Frequently" equals 34% - 66%, "Continuously" equals 67% - 100%

   • 75 pounds and up - Occasionally, but only with the proper lifting techniques and with assistance of another individual or mechanical device
4. Job does not require employee's to use feet for repetitive movement; as in operating foot controls.
5. Job does require employee's use of hand for repetitive movement such as: a. Simple Grasp b. Firm Grasp c. Fine Manipulating
6. Employee's job requires: a. Working on unprotected heights b. Being around moving machinery c. Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity d. Driving automotive equipment e. Exposure to dust, fumes, and gases
