Our state-of-the-art Pediatric Operating Room (OR) is located at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, opened in April 2023. The Pediatric Perioperative Services Team delivers comprehensive, around-the-clock care in a six-OR facility with two dedicated Procedure Rooms, serving diverse specialties including Otolaryngology (ENT), Genitourinary (GU), Orthopedics, General, Neuro, Cardiac, and Trauma. We seek nurses with a passion for pediatric care. Experience in a Level 1 Pediatric OR is valued, and we welcome OR Nurses with a minimum of 1 year of OR experience who demonstrate excellence and dedication. Responsibilities Clinical Nurse II: Apply clinical skills to a defined pediatric patient population; assist the health care team in prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort; recognize changes in patient status and intervene appropriately; mobilize resources to meet patient/family needs; provide direction, education, and leadership at the unit level; deliver and document direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and an integrated plan; safely administer prescribed medications and monitor for interactions. Clinical Nurse III: Demonstrate unit-level clinical knowledge; anticipate and intervene in changing patient situations; provide direction and serve as a clinical role model; deliver and document direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and an integrated plan; safely administer prescribed medications and monitor for interactions. Qualifications Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state; continued employment requires Virginia RN licensure; AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent. Experience (Required): Clin I – N/A; Clin II – 12 to 24 months RN experience; Clin III – 3 years clinical experience. Experience (Preferred): Clin I – experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner; Clin II/III – academic health care experience or experience with a similar patient population. Education/Training (Required): Diploma or Associate Degree in nursing; all RNs without a BSN must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years and complete within five years unless grandfathered. Education/Training (Preferred): Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher; Clin III – certification in a specialty area. Independent actions: Follows physician/licensed independent provider orders; adheres to Virginia nursing regulations; guided by ANA Code of Ethics and established standards; compliant with VCUHS policies. Work and Roles Supervisory responsibilities (Clin I–III): Organize work and supervise others (RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.). Schedule: Clin I–III work all three shifts, including weekends and holidays; shifts rotated with Nurse Manager/Practice Manager; schedules may be adjusted to meet unit needs. Age-specific care: Provided as appropriate based on unit assignment. Physical and Environmental Requirements Physical: Lifting up to 20 lbs; exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances; prolonged standing/sitting; frequent bending; walking/climbing; reaching. Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: Adaptable to fast-paced and high-priority environment; able to handle multiple priorities; frequent and intense interactions; noisy environment.
