Surgical Senior Veterinary Assistant

Up to $38/hour (based on experience and skill set) + $5.50/hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM
Full-Time | 4/10 Schedule (Monday-Friday, based on surgeon availability)

SAGE Veterinary Centers - Concord is seeking a Senior Surgical Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery team. As one of Northern California's premier specialty and emergency hospitals, SAGE Concord offers advanced surgical care supported by board-certified surgeons and a collaborative team of specialists.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will:

• Deliver exceptional support for surgical patients before, during, and after procedures.
• Assist veterinarians with patient restraint and preparation for surgical procedures.
• Prepare and maintain surgery suites, treatment areas, and recovery spaces to ensure a clean, organized, and safe environment.
• Stock surgery suites and treatment areas with the equipment and supplies needed for daily procedures.
• Clean, maintain, and prepare anesthesia machines, surgical equipment, and ventilators.
• Sterilize and prepare surgical instruments in accordance with hospital protocols.
• Assist with patient recovery, including walking, feeding, monitoring, and providing compassionate nursing support.
• Communicate with clients regarding surgical estimates, patient updates, discharge instructions, medications, and follow-up care.
• Support administrative tasks including medical record documentation, data entry, and scheduling assistance.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, RVTs, and the surgery team to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional patient care.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative hospital culture focused on safety and excellence.

What You Bring

• Minimum two years of experience in a clinical veterinary setting with strong clinical skills.
• Experience supporting surgical and anesthesia procedures preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent attention to detail in patient care, surgical preparation, and equipment maintenance.
• Familiarity with anesthesia machines, surgical instruments, ventilators, and advanced surgical procedures such as TPLO, exploratory laparotomy (ex lap), and GDV preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist with patient movement.
• Positive, collaborative attitude and commitment to exceptional patient care.
