Organization VIP Walgreens MAs – Region B Job Summary Upon graduation from a medical assistant program, assists provider in performing office examinations and procedures. Organizes and manages clinic patient flow. Gathers and documents patient screening data. Performs in-office diagnostic testing (e.g., X-rays, EKGs). Assists with patient and family education. Cleans rooms and instruments. Orders and distributes supplies. Schedules appointments and testing, triages phone calls and emails, handles physician correspondence, and manages insurance referrals. The Medical Assistant position requires a highly organized individual who can safely manage more than one task at a time, move swiftly through varied responsibilities, and work as part of a team. The Medical Assistant is under the direct supervision of the Provider/Office Manager. Key Responsibilities Customer Service: Use current technology to pull patients from waiting rooms to exam areas; proactively communicate delays and regulate patient flow; assist and cover the front desk and phones as needed; demonstrate professional behavior in all settings visible to patients and visitors. Planning and Managing Care: Gather screening and other data for the health care team; accompany patients to exam rooms, prepare patients for examination, perform diagnostic testing (e.g., spirometry); maintain clinic flow with MD/provider; assist with patient call-backs and call-in prescriptions under physician direction; pull patient charts for labs, x-ray reports, and other clinical information; document reason for visit, height, weight, temperature, and vital signs; fulfill clerical responsibilities and manage referral and precertification information; schedule testing and procedures; ensure accurate routing of information. Patient/Family Education: Distribute patient and family education materials as directed; facilitate identification of resources to meet patient health care needs. Continuous Learning: Participate in staff meetings; develop and achieve personal and professional goals; contribute to VIP goals; participate in quality improvement through data collection and documentation. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate and collaborate effectively with all members of the health care team; coordinate patient care as directed by the MD/provider; use EHR effectively; maintain professional behavior and responsiveness. Other Duties: Triage patient and family calls; respond to phone and email patient messages; refer to supervisor or clinic staff as needed; maintain regular and reliable attendance.
