Substitute School NurseRegional School District 13 is seeking substitute school nurses district-wide. Position available immediately. Application deadline: open until filled. Reports to: building principal/director of student services and special education.Qualifications: registered nurse currently licensed by the state of CT; current in CPR.Job goal: to provide a combination of individualized nursing care, counseling and health education which enables students to live healthy lives and maximize their potential for learning.Job responsibilities:implements nursing services in an educational settingdemonstrates an understanding of information necessary to enable maximum job performance utilizing nursing knowledgemakes informed medical decisions using available data and informationassumes responsibility for the care of students or staff who have routine and emergency illness or injuryfollows through on health related recommendations from outside health professionals and reports results as neededprovides individualized health counseling and guidance to pupils, parents and school personnelmakes self available as a resource person to students, staff and parentsprovides training to certified educational staff and paraprofessionals in approved health care activities such as Epipen training and medication administration, as per state guidelines and board policiessupplements school health program within his/her school as neededmaintains a complete up-to-date factual cumulative health record, including comprehensive health history and/or care plan when appropriate, for each studentperforms all state required screenings and notifies parents and/or refers results to physician where appropriateobtains health history on all new school entrantsdevelops and communicates nursing care plan and/or emergency care plan with student, faculty and parents and staffestablishes meaningful dialogue with staff to increase their understanding of individual student health problems and the possible need of classroom adaptationscommunicates necessary information to case manager of identified studentsinforms staff, students and their parents of school policy and state laws regarding administration of medication during school hourscreates and maintains a safe and responsive health room atmosphereencourages students to seek and maintain good health and safety practicescollaborates with other school professionals, parents and caregivers to meet the health and development needs of students in an educational settingparticipates in PPTs, SAT, 504, and team meetings and fulfills his/her responsibilities as assigned in this capacityutilizes community agencies as resources and facilitates intervention with students and their families when appropriateattends faculty and department meetings as well as meetings pertaining to special services and health concerns for studentsfollows the policies and procedures of the school districtparticipates in professional growth activitiesdemonstrates a sense of professional responsibilityperforms any other medical and/health-related duties and responsibilities associated with the positionsupports and promotes the district's core ethical values with students, colleagues, and parentsstrives to implement the district's mission, goals and objectives outlined in the district's strategic plan
