JOB DESCRIPTION: The IPS Quality Control (QC) Technician plays an important role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and overall quality of IPS production products. This position, working within the QC Department and under the direction of the IPS Technical Services Manager, is responsible for executing and supporting quality control processes throughout the product lifecycle. The QC Technician helps maintain IPS’s high standards by identifying defects, verifying product functionality, and ensuring all equipment meets company and client expectations.

JOB DUTIES:   

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final quality inspections on LED panels, modules, lighting fixtures, motors, and audio components as directed by the tech services manager. 
  • Test LED modules for pixel defects, brightness uniformity, color consistency, and dead LED
  • Verify signal integrity, refresh rates, and video processing performance.
  • Conduct functional testing of lighting fixtures, including pan/tilt movement, dimming, color mixing, and strobe effects 
  • Use test software and controllers to validate LED mapping and fixture functionality.
  • Check firmware versions and ensure proper configuration and updates on all IPS assets as directed by the technical services manager. 
  • Identify and isolate issues such as: 
    • Dead or dim LED pixels 
    • Color inconsistencies or calibration errors 
    • Signal loss/intermittent communication 
    • Motor or mechanical failures in moving lights
  • Assist with or perform basic cleaning, repairs, and component replacements. 
  • Work with production department teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions. 
  • Configure lighting fixtures for show-ready operation, including addressing and mode setup. 
  • Generate repair reports in RentalWorks to remove items from inventory availability and assist the technical services manager in tracking asset damage history. 
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, testing outcomes, and serial tracking.
  • Monitor re-assembly processes to ensure consistent quality standards.
  • Recommend improvements for product reliability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

TRAVEL:

  • Travel not required.
  • Long-distance drives or out-of-town work are not expected, but could be discussed if mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years of live event or production experience.
  • Knowledge and Attention to the highest levels and best practices in quality control.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment, technical and safety limitations (weights, safe rigging, power requirements, etc).
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of various brands of entertainment technologies.
  • Proficient knowledge of equipment- troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining - Training provided when necessary.
  • Process-oriented & able to work independently, as well as direct 1-2 other technicians.
  • A great team player with a positive attitude.
  • An exceptional customer service mindset and experience is a must.
