Description: Float within service line/scope of practice as needed. Average daily census of 76 patients. Patient age groups include neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Staffing ratios are 1:4-5 on all shifts. Providers see all patients presenting with any complaint to the emergency room. Typical chief complaints include chest pain, shortness of breath, mental health evaluations, OB/GYN emergencies, sepsis, stroke, abdominal pain, sprains, strains, fractures, trauma, and cardiac arrest. Unit has 27 beds and is classified as a rural emergency department. Facility is a primary stroke center with a dedicated room for forensic nursing. 24/7 board-certified emergency department providers and support staff are available. Two designated resuscitation rooms and four dedicated mental health preferred rooms are included within the unit. Experience in adult/pediatric emergency departments is required. Required skills include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care and management, phlebotomy, starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration, and care of ventilated patients. Candidates must possess the ability to interpret arterial blood gases and manage complex cases including CVA, neurotrauma, ortho-trauma, and head injuries. Knowledge in isolation precautions and triage is necessary. Every other weekend commitment is required. Experience with the medication system and charting systems is mandatory. Clinical screening will occur if any requirements are missing. Travel experience is considered beneficial. Local candidates within a 50-mile radius will not be accepted. References from previous employers within the last 24 months are required. Fingerprinting may be required for certain units. Scheduling may change with two weeks' notice to balance the unit's needs. Modules will be completed during orientation and annually and may vary by specialty.
