Maintenance Worker IIMaintenance Worker IILocation: East Lansing, Michigan, United StatesArea of Interest: Labor/Service/MaintenancePosition Type: Full Time (90-100%)Union Status: UnionPosition SummaryCharacteristic duties include installing and repairing linoleum and formica counter tops and backs, repairing folding and sliding doors, repairing, rebuilding, and assisting in recovering sofas, installing floor and ceramic tile and base cove, repairing and replacing glass block and brick, repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, valves, and traps, repairing and replacing cast iron, copper, steel, and sanitary piping, cleaning sewer lines, plugged stools, and drains, installing new toilet stools, tanks, urinals, sinks, and related accessory fixtures, cleaning, adjusting, and repairing automatic controls, pilot lights, hot water heaters, and flex tubes in gas ranges, repairing and replacing eave troughs, drain spouts, expansion joints, and installing sheet metal flushings, repairing and replacing defective controls, switches, and other electric fixtures, adjusting thermostats, inspecting and making minor repairs to refrigerators, including the replacement of controls, panels, and parts, requesting parts and supplies as needed, assigning work to and checking work of assigned support employees.Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to, welding and leading pipe joints, maintaining and repairing electric vacuum sweepers and related floor cleaning and resurfacing equipment, operating a vehicle for service calls, repairing and altering floors, doors, roofs, decks, stairways, rails, and screening, repairing wood and aluminum window and door frames, installing window glass and plexiglass and repairing aluminum storm door closers and chains, replacing and installing weather stripping on doors and windows, cleaning, repairing, and patching carpets, inspecting and making minor repairs to electric ranges, including the replacement of oven controls and coils, varnishing and/or painting doors and other parts of building’s exterior and interior, installing plaster board, dry wall, ceramic, and plastic tile, making minor adjustments and repairs to heating equipment, tightening and replacing belts in fans and motors, replacing light bulbs, fuses, and making minor electric switch repairs or replacements.All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension.
