The Florida Commission on Human Relations is the state agency charged with enforcing the state's civil rights laws and serves as a resource on human relations for the people of Florida. It is against Florida law to discriminate on the bases of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, disability, marital status or familial status. The Commission investigates complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and state employee whistle-blower retaliation. The Commission is responsible for promoting fair treatment, equal opportunity, and mutual respect among members of all economic, social, racial, religious and ethnic groups and works to eliminate discrimination against groups and their members.

In this role, you will provide essential legal support to the Florida Commission on Human Relations by guiding the agency through the interpretation and application of Florida's civil rights laws. You will help ensure that investigations, case reviews, and agency actions meet legal standards and reflect consistent, fair decision-making. You will also support the agency's outreach and educational efforts by contributing to legal training and helping staff and the public understand their rights and responsibilities under the law.

Your work will strengthen the Commission's ability to protect individuals from unlawful discrimination and promote equal opportunity across the state. By ensuring legally sound decisions and offering clear, reliable guidance, you will help build trust in the agency's enforcement process and contribute to fair treatment for all Floridians. This is a remote position. Pay: $42,463.48 - $50,000.00

Your specific responsibilities include determining whether statutory violations occurred in cases investigated by the agency, reviewing investigative reports for legal sufficiency, preparing legal documents for review and approval, working with investigations managers to improve work product, responding to inquiries from investigations, performing legal research, completing research and other assignments as directed, reviewing case files and recommended orders to draft proposed final orders, and responding to inquiries from agency staff, parties to complaints and the general public regarding legal issues.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of the rules of evidence, investigative techniques, court procedures and requirements, ability to use deductive reasoning, communicate effectively, make detailed verbal presentations, collect and analyze evidence, maintain strict confidentiality, make independent decisions, plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments, analyze information and determine its validity, conduct fact-finding interviews and take statements, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Qualifications include admission to The Florida Bar and a member in good standing, one year of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative or judicial hearings, and a degree in business administration, public administration, or business management.
