Software Quality Assurance EngineerThe Software Quality Assurance Engineer develops, documents, and executes test cases for application and embedded software used in advanced medical device robotic systems. This role focuses on identifying and tracking software defects and performance issues, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and providing detailed feedback to improve software performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.Responsibilities:Develop, document, and execute comprehensive test cases for application and embedded software, covering functional, regression, and performance testing as needed.Identify, document, and track software defects, inconsistencies, and performance issues using established bug tracking systems.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, hardware engineers, and product managers, to understand system requirements and testing needs.Analyze test results, diagnose issues, and provide clear, actionable feedback to engineering teams to support timely resolution.Suggest improvements to software design, implementation, and test strategies to enhance performance, reliability, and user experience.Perform manual testing of software applications and embedded systems, ensuring thorough coverage of specified requirements.Work with embedded hardware and systems during testing to validate integration, communication, and overall system behavior.Utilize PowerShell and other scripting tools to support test execution, data collection, and basic automation tasks.Apply knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems during test planning and execution, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.Use version control systems such as Git or SVN and continuous integration tools such as Azure DevOps to manage test artifacts and support the development workflow.Consider regulatory standards and practices for medical software development, including FDA and IEC-related guidelines, when planning and executing tests.Communicate test status, defect trends, and quality risks clearly and professionally to stakeholders.Work collaboratively in a regulated or robotics-focused environment to ensure that software meets safety, reliability, and compliance expectations.Essential Skills:Hands-on software quality assurance experience, including manual testing of application and embedded software.Practical experience with PowerShell scripting to support testing activities.Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, and basic administration.Experience using Linux operating systems in a testing or development environment.Knowledge and experience working with embedded hardware and embedded systems during software testing.Experience in either robotics or regulated environments, ideally including medical device systems.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.Familiar understanding of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, Serial, and UART.Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, or Python for automation testing and scripting.Experience with version control systems, for example Git or SVN.Experience with continuous integration tools, such as Azure DevOps.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.Additional Skills & Qualifications:Familiarity with regulatory standards and practices for medical software development, including FDA and IEC-related guidelines.Experience testing medical device robotic systems or similar complex, safety-critical platforms.Background in robotics, embedded systems, or other advanced electromechanical systems.Comfort working in a regulated environment with structured processes and documentation.Ability to contribute to automation efforts using C, C++, or Python to enhance test coverage and efficiency.Experience using bug tracking tools within a modern software development lifecycle.Strong collaboration skills and the ability to translate technical findings into clear recommendations for engineering and product teams.Work Environment:The role is primarily onsite, with an expectation of being present up to five days per week in a collaborative engineering environment. You will work closely with software and hardware teams on advanced medical device robotic systems that combine embedded hardware, embedded software, and application-level components. The environment emphasizes rigorous testing, regulatory awareness, and continuous improvement, supported by modern tools such as Git, SVN, and Azure DevOps. You can expect hands-on interaction with embedded hardware, use of both Windows and Linux operating systems, and participation in a structured development and quality assurance process over a long-term contract engagement.Job Type & Location:This is a Contract position based out of Newton, MA.Pay and Benefits:The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
