TX-STAR Speech Language Services works alongside school districts across Texas to provide students with specialized instruction and individualized educational support. We are currently seeking Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for school-based opportunities in the Austin area and other communities throughout Texas.

These positions are well suited for educators who are passionate about improving educational access, strengthening communication, and creating inclusive learning experiences for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will provide specialized instruction and consultation that helps students access academic content, participate in classroom activities, and progress toward their educational goals.

In this role, you will:

• Deliver direct and consultative instructional services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing

• Modify lessons, materials, and teaching approaches according to each student's learning and communication needs

• Implement instructional goals, services, and accommodations identified in Individualized Education Programs

• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, families, interpreters, related-service providers, and campus staff

• Recommend strategies that improve student access to classroom discussions, assignments, and school activities

• Participate in ARD and IEP meetings and share progress information, observations, and educational recommendations

• Support communication development through spoken language, sign language, or a combination of methods based on student needs

• Incorporate assistive listening devices, visual supports, adaptive equipment, and other accessibility resources

• Monitor student performance and adjust instructional supports based on progress

• Complete service records, progress reports, and other required documentation accurately and within established timelines

Qualifications for This Position

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

• Current Texas teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education or Auditory Impairments

• Knowledge of effective instructional methods for students with hearing differences

• Understanding of IEP procedures, accommodations, and school-based special education services

• Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to build productive relationships with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams

• Previous experience supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred

• Proficiency in sign language is a plus
