Emergency Department Tech | EDT III | North| FT | Night

Position Overview Emergency Department Tech III Under the direction of a Registered Nurse or physician, the Emergency Department Tech III performs a variety of duties to assist the nursing staff and physicians in rendering patient care in the Emergency Department. The role provides patient care within a defined scope of practice including observation, assessment, specified treatments and procedures, and models appropriate behavior aligned with MLH Mission, Vision and Values. Responsibilities Perform and document reassessments (excluding initial triage and discharge assessment), including full vital signs. Position patients for examinations and procedures; hold efficiently for procedures. Assist with patient transportation. Safely administer medications using barcode scanning, provide necessary observation and documentation of drug effects. Administer select medications approved by department policy as indicated and ordered. Perform patient procedures such as EKGs, oro-nasal or pharyngeal suctioning, and initiate intravenous fluid therapy (isotonic fluids) under general supervision. Perform radiological procedures using mini c‑arm and point‑of‑care testing (bedside glucose, urine pregnancy testing) as needed. Document care delivered in the patient’s medical record in accordance with Emergency Department policy and procedure. Promote professional practice on the care team and complete mandatory and unit‑specific competency requirements. Perform other job functions as assigned or requested. Education and Experience Required: Technical Degree or Diploma in Paramedic. Experience: 3–5 years clinical/field experience. Licenses and Certifications Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association Paramedic - Tennessee (Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Division) Paramedic – Mississippi (Mississippi State Department of Health) – Preferred Paramedic – Arkansas (Arkansas Emergency Medical Services) – Preferred Abilities and Skills Read, write, and understand verbal or written instructions. Effectively communicate verbally with others. Maintain confidentiality per policy, procedures, and HIPAA requirements. Demonstrate compassion and patience toward patients. Communicate effectively and positively with patients, families, and health care workers. Cope with stressful situations, including death and dying and dealing with anguished relatives. Comply with safety/emergency procedures and nursing service policies. Use equipment required for implementing patient care. Adhere to Methodist Healthcare Systems’ code of conduct. Physical Demands The position requires Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. Good balance and coordination. Close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact, exposure to patient body fluids, and hazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
