Job Description: Maintenance/Custodian
Under direction, is responsible for general site and building maintenance. Perform routine manual work for keeping assigned building and grounds in a clean, sanitary and safe condition. Maintain various types of equipment. Paint, sweep, dust, scrub and mop floors. Examples of duties:
- Refinish, seal and wax floors of various types;
- Perform other housekeeping duties such as washing walls and woodwork, light fixtures, windows, bathrooms, dusting and polishing furniture and other school equipment, as necessary;
- Order proper equipment and supplies for the performance of work;
- Operate on a schedule coordinated with the office programs as prepared by the County Superintendent and Assistant of Business and Personnel;
- Perform other related duties, as assigned;
- Responsible for the general and preventative maintenance programs of the County school facilities and equipment;
- Responsible for the maintenance of a clean, sanitary and safe work area within and around the County schools buildings;
- Perform set duties of custodial nature on a daily, weekly and/or monthly schedule, including the maintenance of grounds;
- Work with Safety Officer to properly dispose of and store cleaning materials.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- The basic operation, tools and terms used in building and grounds maintenance;
- Modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
Ability to:
- Perform manual labor;
- Follow work schedules, oral and written instructions;
- Work cooperatively with others;
- Acquire skill quickly in work requiring mechanical ability;
- Pass a physical examination and maintain good health;
- Maintain equipment relative to position.
Physical Requirements:
The chart below indicates what annual percentage of time is spent on each of the following essential physical requirements.

3 a. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods.

4 e. Ability to bend and twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push and pull.
4 f. Ability to lift 75 pounds.
4 g. Ability to carry 50 pounds.
4 h. Ability to reach in all directions.
1 i. Ability to use fingers for manipulative functions like typing, writing, filing, sorting, etc.

Desired Qualifications:
Required Experience: One year of experience as a laborer, helper or similar work in the building trade.
Required Education: Equivalent to completion of eighth grade.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and/or Credentials:
Type C California Drivers License unless waived by Superintendent. Superintendent will not act in an arbitrary or capricious manner when deciding to waive this requirement. Fingerprint clearance.
Evaluations: Assistant Superintendent or Designee
Bargaining Unit: CSEA
Salary Range: Range 19
Initial Placement: Maximum placement step 2 Step 3 (with approval of Superintendent)
