About the Team
TechSource is seeking a Waste Management Coordinator to support mission-critical waste management and ESH&Q operations within highly regulated nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant handling, characterization, and disposition of hazardous and radioactive materials in alignment with national security objectives.
About this Role
The Waste Management Coordinator oversees waste handling, characterization, storage, and disposal activities to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. This role coordinates waste management operations, performs hazardous and radiological characterization, maintains documentation, and serves as a liaison between operations teams, environmental compliance staff, and regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate waste management operations including handling, categorization, packaging, storage,
- transportation, and disposal of hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste materials.
- Perform and verify waste characterization to ensure proper handling, labeling, segregation, categorization, and packaging of waste, while supporting the preparation and review of operating procedures, work planning documents, and safety documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal (EPA, NRC, etc.) and state regulations and organizational procedures governing hazardous and radioactive waste.
- Maintain records including waste profiles, storage inventories, inspection logs, disposal documentation, and shipping paperwork.
- Provide oversight and guidance to waste management technicians and field operators.
- Monitor waste storage areas to ensure proper containment, labeling, categorization, and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a point of contact for waste handling operations and regulatory inquiries.
- Assist in identifying process improvements and implementing waste reduction initiatives.
- Support internal audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting activities.
Work Environment
100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The site location is a one-way, approximately 45-minute drive from Santa Fe and approximately 90-minute drive from Albuquerque. May require shift work (nights and weekends).
- Must be willing to work around radioactive materials in compliance with safety protocols.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which includes successfully passing a federal drug test and federal background check.
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with hazardous or radioactive waste management operations, including waste categorization and characterization practices preferred.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety practices related to hazardous materials is preferred.
