Job Description

The Experian North America Government Affairs team is based in Washington, D.C. and leads state and federal legislative, regulatory, and political engagement on behalf of the company’s diverse business interests. The team participates in both state and Washington, DC-based trade associations and coalitions, and manages an active PAC that engages in bi-partisan political giving.

You will be responsible for monitoring state political, legislative, and regulatory developments and advocating for outcomes consistent with the objectives of Experian's North America businesses. Reporting to the SVP of Government Affairs, the focus will be on state legislative and regulatory initiatives across an assigned multi-state portfolio.

We are looking for a self-starter who brings strong collaboration skills and knowledge of state legislative and regulatory policy to our core Government Affairs team. The role is based in Washington, D.C.. Candidates in Sacramento, California may also be considered.

 

What you will do

• Monitor legislative and regulatory proposals across an assigned multi-state portfolio that would affect Experian's core credit bureau, commercial credit, marketing services, automotive, health, and consumer services businesses, and assess priorities for monitoring or engagement.
• Help lead legislative and regulatory engagement with state policymakers and regulators working directly with state-based consultants and lobbyists, key trade associations and coalitions, outside counsel, and other external resources.
• Develop and execute advocacy strategies on priority state legislative and regulatory matters, including coordinating Experian and industry positions.
• Monitor state agency rulemakings and other regulatory proceedings, and coordinate company and industry responses, including comment letters.
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, and business teams to assess policy developments, identify material business impacts, and coordinate company positions and response strategies.
• Develop executive-ready policy analysis, legislative and regulatory reports, briefing materials, and priority tracking to keep senior leaders and internal stakeholders informed of state policy developments.
• Communicate enacted laws and final regulations to Legal, Compliance, and relevant business teams to support implementation and compliance planning.
• Support Experian’s state political and PAC activities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience working on state legislative or regulatory policy, at a state financial regulatory agency, or with a policy-oriented organization focused on state-level issues.
• Must live in the Washington D.C. or Sacramento, California areas as this is a hybrid role
• Available to travel for work once a month
• Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Public Policy, or related area.
• Experience working on privacy, financial services, and technology issues.
• Experience working with diverse personality types and across party lines.
• Experience extracting important takeaways from legislation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay range for this position is listed above. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors such as job-related skills, experience, and education. You will be also eligible for a variable pay opportunity.
