Design Engineer

The Design Engineer will be responsible for creating detailed designs, performing engineering calculations, and preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for KFPI customers in need of Fire and Gas Safety Systems. Building on prior design experience, the Design Engineer will work with increasing independence to support the efficient operation of our design department, while providing ongoing support through troubleshooting, repair planning, and preventive maintenance of various customer-related design issues.

The Design Engineer will take a proactive approach to collaborate with customers and equipment engineers, ensuring that all designs meet NFPA, FM, SEMI and customer-specific standards. The Design Engineer will coordinate and lead on-site or virtual design meetings and reviews with customers or equipment engineers to ensure alignment and clarity throughout the design process.

In this role, the Design Engineer must be capable of diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues through the interpretation of technical drawings, including blueprints and electronic or mechanical schematics, and applying engineering principles gained through formal education and prior work experience.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or related discipline) required
• 2-4 years of professional design or engineering experience, preferably in fire protection, gas safety, or a related industry
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is a must; SolidWorks experience is a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
• Working knowledge of NFPA and SEMI standards, FM (Factory Mutual) requirements is a plus
• Knowledge of Low Voltage Electrical systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and isometric plumbing drawings
• Electrical troubleshooting experience and strong analytical problem-solving skills
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to professionally correspond with both customers and co-workers
• Ability to travel as needed for the position

Additional Tasks:

• Follow up with customers and other departments to ensure issues have been resolved
• Support entry-level design engineers and contribute to internal design reviews
• Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner
• Adhere to all department and company standards, operating procedures, and safety requirements while contributing to continuous improvement
• May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
