Job Title : Bus Driver FLSA Exemption Status : Non-Exempt Classification Group : Cherry Creek Transportation Employees Association Supervising Position : Operations Supervisor or designee Pay Plan : Cherry Creek Transportation Employees Association Pay Range : Step Schedule Last Updated : 09/08/2025 JOB SUMMARY Transport, safely and expediently, students to and from home, between schools, and on district-sponsored trips. Monitor students at designated stops to ensure safe passage on and off the bus. When not actively operating a school bus or performing transportation-related duties, employees in this position may be assigned to assist with administrative or clerical tasks as needed or directed by the department supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. After completing the designated bus route, perform administrative tasks in the office for any remaining scheduled work hours. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 50%) Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Reports delays or accidents. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Performs pre/post-trip inspections to ensure safe operations of vehicle and/or bus by visually or tactically inspecting all components of vehicle interior and exterior according to Colorado Department of Education Standards. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Loads and unloads students at various stops and destinations. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Performs student discipline activities before, during, and after assigned routes, if necessary. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Communicates information and procedures to students, office personnel and/or others in the event of an emergency. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Waits at assigned locations between routes and/or between student pick-ups or at other activities/functions while waiting for students. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) Performs evacuation drills as required by the Colorado Department of Education and transportation department procedures. (Frequency: Annually; Percentage: 5%) Participates in training activities, as required. (Frequency: Annually; Percentage: 5%) Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (Frequency: Daily; Percentage: 5%) REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired. Criminal background check and fingerprinting required High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma No professional work experience required Colorado driver’s license Commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B with both a "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsement Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification Must be at least 21 years of age Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool Must pass Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Colorado Department of Education screenings Must have a clear/clean Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle record within the past three (3) years We cannot consider any application for bus drivers until we have an original of your Motor Vehicle Record dated within the past 30 days. We cannot consider any applicant whose license has been suspended/revoked within the past three years or who has had a probationary license for less than three years. We cannot consider any applicant who has been convicted of DUI or DWAI within the past three years.
